Project Engineer - Food & Beverage Packaging

Education

You should have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with honors in Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering.

Experience

Significant experience with high-speed packaging operations is essential. Solid technical understanding of packaging equipment systems is necessary. Experience with all aspects of high-speed beverage packaging is highly preferred including filling, capping, labeling, multi-packing, case packing, conveying, coding, palletizing and blowmolding. Exposure to different package formats is preferred including PET bottles, cans, glass, caps, cartons, corrugate cases & trays, shrink film and stretch film. Experience with aseptic filling is a plus. Experience with food & beverage systems is also desirable including blending, batching, filtration and pasteurization.

You should possess at least 5 years relevant packaging industry experience and have a proven track record of independently managing complex projects involving packaging equipment systems.

Skills
  • Strong math, written communication & verbal communication are essential
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD, MS Word (complex formatting) and MS Excel (complex multi-sheet workbooks) is essential.  Knowledge of MS Project and MS PowerPoint preferred.
  • Concise technical writing ability required
  • Team player with ability to get along well with others required


Duties

  • Design and evaluation of new packaging equipment systems
  • Development of plant layout drawings including floor plans, electrical schematics, piping schematics & more
  • Preparation of equipment performance specifications
  • Preparation of installation bid specifications
  • Overseeing of contractors performing site installation
  • Development of plant utility requirements to support new packaging systems (steam, electrical, air chilling, etc.)
  • Development and management of schedules and budgets for commercialization of new equipment systems and packaging materials
  • Analysis of performance of packaging equipment systems
  • Management of client relationships
  • Development of technical documentation to support commercialization of new packaging equipment systems and packaging materials
  • Development of capital cost estimates for new equipment systems
  • Development of complex analyses of operational costs
  • Writing of technical manuals
  • Package quality testing with associated statistical analysis
  • Assistance with design of food & beverage processing systems
  • Performance of plant trials on new packaging materials and packaging machinery


Location & Travel

This position will be based at our office in Rochester, New York. However, 20% to 40% travel within the USA may at times be required to meet our project workload.
