Role Summary/Purpose
The Project Engineer will perform engineering design tasks for wireless and telecommunications systems, keeps current with wireless technical trends and develops and acts as a technical resource, maintains up-to-date knowledge of the telecommunications systems industry / markets, the competition, and shares that information with Sales and other in-house personnel. The ideal candidate will be a self-driven, goal oriented and takes direction well.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise for the design and integration of GE MDS products and peripheral OEM equipment into a final, working system
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge and awareness of all department processes
  • Perform site surveys, propagation analysis, and other RF design activities
  • Determine the power consumption of a unit of communications equipment
  • Determine the power consumption for a facility containing communications equipment
  • Design a DC power plant to support the facility for a given required reserve time
  • Analyze the electrical protection requirements (includes grounding / earthing, bonding, shielding, and lightning protection) and design the electrical protection layout for a wireless telecommunications facility
  • Design a wireless communication facility layout plan with considerations for heating, air conditioning, ventilation, and structural issues
  • Determine the required antennas for the facility and their required positions on a structure
  • Design the waveguide / transmission line layout between the communications electronics and the antenna(s)
  • Coordinate with other users when implementing a communications system in a shared location
  • Develop a specification for the required structure for a wireless base station facility based on the required antenna sizes and elevations above ground
  • Determine the required cable, antennas, and materials to implement an in-building wireless network
  • Determine the required number of racks on which to mount the equipment and the rack layout and placement, taking into account the maintainability of the equipment
  • Evaluate equipment compliance with industry standards, codes, and site requirements such as NEBS specifications, and ANSI, ETSI, IEC, and other applicable standards
  • Follow through with resolving product- and system-level technical problems and system design requirements
  • Root cause analysis for problem resolution
  • Interface with the Customer for technical issues, scheduling, acceptance tests, and other project matters
  • Research OEM equipment for use in systems
  • Provide technical guidance to technicians and draft persons for system design, integration and testing
  • Interface with the Customer Support personnel as needed to resolve order discrepancies
  • Generate contract documents and scope of work (SOW)
  • Other duties as required

    Qualifications/Requirements
  • Bachelor’s of Science in Electrical Engineering or 4 years industry experience
  • Minimum 1 year Field Work Experience

  • Project Management experience
  • Minimum 3 years of industry experience preferred
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and demonstrate strong problem solving skills
  • Ability to interface diplomatically with domestic and foreign Customers both in the factory and on site with the Customer’s engineers and managers
  • Ability to work collaboratively on a cross functional team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to speak a foreign language and knowledge of foreign cultures a plus
  • Have an understanding of wireless systems design, telecommunications peripherals, tower requirements and system installation
  • Exp with RF Propagation software
  • Have solid working experience on IEEE 802.1q/p, WiMAX networking, TCP/IP, routing and switching protocols
  • Have knowledge of networking protocols
  • Must have familiarity with development and documentation of system test procedures, drawings and schematics
  • Understanding of radio propagation and experience in the use of propagation modeling software
  • Knowledge or experience in the use of telecommunications equipment, such as RF signal generators, spectrum analyzer and transmission test set
