Our client, a heavy industrial manufacturer, has an immediate opening for a Project Mechanical Engineer.
Scope of the Position: This position will provide both the technical and project support required to meet the safety, quality, equipment, operational, and maintenance objectives the Company. This position will have significant involvement with both salaried and hourly personnel including safety, quality, operating, and maintenance, as well as with outside contractors and equipment suppliers. The successful candidate will usually serve as project manager or lead engineer on project and/or equipment improvement teams.
Skill Requirements:
Engineering:
* Minimum of five years progressive experience in a metal (hot or cold) rolling environment with industrial / manufacturing engineering and Lean Manufacturing implementation experience.
* Have effectively managed multiple industrial / mechanical engineering tasks simultaneously, planning and scheduling work and activities to meet safety, quality, cost, and schedule parameters.
* Demonstrated experience in the specification, design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of equipment and ancillary systems for hot rolling or similar equipment, including reliability improvements and related PM program design.
* Proven experience in trouble-shooting complex electro-mechanical systems, identifying causes, and implementing corrective actions to eliminate root causes.
Continuous Improvement:
* Knowledgeable in continuous improvement process with an emphasis on team-focused solutions. Experience in the techniques of Lean Manufacturing, including VSM, RCM, Kaizen, and 5S a plus.
* Ability to learn new concepts and effectively pass this knowledge on to others through training, documentation, and work standardization methods.
Other:
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite & Lotus Notes, MS Project, AutoCAD.
* A personal commitment to the continuous improvement of safety as demonstrated by a focus on building safety into the equipment and the process and ensuring a hazard-free work place.
* A strong detail orientation and ability to work effectively both as an individual contributor and as a team member to ensure deliverables are to best practices, on budget, and on time.
* Possess strong communications skills, both oral and written.
* Be self-directed, able to understand the impact of activities on the business as a whole, and prioritize accordingly. Be able to simultaneously manage several systems and/or projects.
* Work effectively with all departments as well as customers and suppliers to accomplish objectives with positive outcomes for all involved.
Duties of This Position:
* This position may be an area reliability position or be working on projects that comprise major upgrade programs that could last 12-24 months. The candidate will be integrated into the plant maintenance/engineering team. The candidate will own the process from build to maintenance.
* Utilize continuous improvement methods to close business performance gaps specific to safety, product quality, process throughput, production and maintenance costs, and new product / process development.
* Manage all assigned projects such that business objectives are met and work is completed on-time and within budget.
* Write and distribute timely reports to update stakeholders on status and issues of all projects including scope, engineering, procurement, installation, cost, and schedule, as well as assessments of results upon implementation.
* Recommend to supervisor, Area BU Managers, and/or Director of Engineering opportunities for improvements in critical business performance areas.
* Assist Operations through measuring and monitoring of production activities, data analysis, trend identification and establishment of projects that drive continuous improvement.
* Build strong and positive working relationships with all areas of the company by working to include them in project and improvement activities, making sure their needs and requirements are carefully considered.
* Review and approve project drawings and documentation, and interface directly with internal and external sources during vendor coordination meetings and factory tests.
* Provide technical support to Manufacturing and reliability engineering personnel.
* Assist the Design/Drafting group with the development of assembly/fabrication drawings.
Requirements:
* A minimum four-year degree in Mechanical Engineering.
* Lean Manufacturing / Continuous Improvement Certification a plus.
