Propulsion Engineer

Insitu is a leading high-tech autonomous systems company driven by a culture of agility and systematic improvement . We currently produce and sell an ever growing fleet of Unmanned Aircraft Systems that are low-cost, long-endurance, and have low personnel requirements. These UASs provide a no-runway launch, unprecedented stabilized day and night video for ISR, robotic flight control, and a no-nets capture.

As we continue our rapid growth in the UAS/UAV market we are looking for experienced talent to help us achieve our goal of maintaining the agile and innovative problem-solving capabilities we offer. We are currently looking for a Propulsion Engineer to join Insitu's propulsion team.

  • Investigate methods to improve engine performance and reliability. Design new systems to support this goal.
  • Troubleshoot engines & support Operations in solving any assembly/ configuration/ inspection problems.
  • Perform testing to verify and validate designs. Document testing performed in Design Study Summaries.
  • Perform research, support & advise other functional areas regarding technical issues related to quality, operations processes, materials & customer support
  • Provide guidance to CAD operators in order to generate drawings and documents for manufacturing.
  • Interface with manufacturing and outside vendors to resolve problems as necessary
  • Review the design principles used in the externally provided components and assess whether the item is suitable and diagnose problems.
  • Formally present subsystem designs, as required to engineering management and/or customers.
  • Adhere to company policies and product development procedures.
  • Five or more years experience in a broad range of topics including:  Propulsion Systems engineering, Acoustics, Vibration, Project management, Practical Mechanical engineering application, CAD-CAM (preferably SolidWorks) and Basic electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with the following tools:  Engine analysis tools, oscilloscope, multimeter, Mill, lathe, drill press, and non-CNC metal working shop tools.
  • Desired experience:  Matlab, engine dynamometer, high performance combustion engine tuning and software driven computer controlled automated systems.
  • Leadership:  Must be able to take projects from conception to production and possess demonstrated team building and working skills
  • Good communication skills are required.
  •  BA/BS or equivalent required; advanced degree preferred
