Prototype Machinist

Job Summary:

Under general supervision, assists R & D and the Engineering Department in prototype and tooling fabrication.  Successful candidate must be fluent in general machining, including milling, drilling, turning, grinding and other aspects of prototype manufacture process.  This position also requires full knowledge of blueprint reading, including various mil specifications and GD & T.  Must provide machining process to the Design Engineer to reduce cost in prototyping.  Must have CNC experience (Chevalier/Anilam is a plus.)

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Receive prototype drawings from the Engineering Department and fabricate accordingly.
  • Provide assistance to Engineers relative to machining process, limitation and design for manufacturability.
  • Identify errors in the drawings and missing dimensions that are critical to form, fit and function of the design in a timely manner.
  • Manage prototype fabrications process, including the ability to provide time line for each project and vendor management.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
:

  • Milling, lathe turning, drilling, grinding, and other machining processes.
  • Cutting tool design, spindle spend, plunge rate and all other parameters involved in the metal removing process.
  • Familiar with machining various types of materials such as steel, stainless steel, aluminum, brass, non metal such as plastic, DELRN, Nylon and 5S.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

AA Degree in Industrial Technology (Machining).  Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in a Prototype Shop manufacturing environment. General machining, both conventional and CNC.
