Position Description

Public Relations Specialist

Mattel, Inc. is seeking a Public Relations Specialist to join its team of PR/Promotions professionals at the #1 Toy Company in the World! This position is located at Mattel's World Headquarters in El Segundo, CA.

The PR Specialist will maintain regular contact with trade, entertainment and consumer journalists covering the toy industry and ancillary industries, in order to pitch or discover story ideas for coverage. This individual must have the ability to persuade and influence media and social media bloggers alike.

Additional responsibilities include:
' Support ongoing media inquiries and interviews, including drafting of written responses and interview briefing documents, providing background materials to journalists and facilitating logistics for on-site television shoots and interviews.
' Assist in managing pan-brands media events and outreach from beginning to end, including creation of media materials, development of visual space/layout, development of key messages/briefing documents, coordination or talent/demonstrator appearances, management of samples, etc.
' Develop and process materials for approvals to assist in implementation of campaign strategies designed to generate pan-brand product publicity, as well as brand-specific projects assigned.
' Send media clippings/coverage to marketing teams, and executives as appropriate, in timely matter, working with Manager to position/frame results.
' Work closely with Supervisors to assist in managing internal and external resources to create, execute and measure effectiveness of media communications in the U.S, targeting consumer and trade press for Mattel Brands
' Assist in the management of external PR agencies
' Help develop creative for programs by participating in brainstorms
' Track/support program execution with associated day-to-day activities
' Assist in sponsorships of award shows, celebrity lounges, and gift bags across all Mattel Brands.
' Execute product placement letters of agreement, including review of scripts, working with legal department to finalize appropriate fees and tracking/reporting all finalized agreements.
' Develop studio product placement contacts, regularly mail and pitch Mattel Brands products.
' Draft/edit weekly executive highlights document.
' Manage and oversee compilation reporting systems for pan-brand portfolio initiatives, as well as brand-specific assigned projects, in an effort to analyze effectiveness of campaigns and report the findings to senior management on behalf of the department.

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS REQUIRED

' Bachelors Degree in Journalism, Communications, or Public Relations.

' Minimum 2-3 Years Experience working in Public Relations at agency or in-house with consumer brands/products.

' Preferred if individual has strong media contacts and should have an understanding of competition and industry, and solid time management skills.

' Strong written and verbal communications required, as well as flawless editing skills.

' Specialized traditional and non-traditional media knowledge, presentation skills, and ability to interface with all levels of management and key decision makers.
