Overview: Prevent and suppress crime, protect life and property, preserve peace through conspicuous patrol, respond to calls for assistance, emergency, crisis intervention, and other services provided by the Department.
Essential Functions: Patrol University campus and surrounding community via foot and vehicle; enforce statutes, and rules and regulations; render emergency assistance; initiate written and verbal reports; conduct interviews relative to investigations; provide crisis intervention; and provide overall security services to all members of Marquette University and the community.
Duties and Responsibilities: Perform routine patrols of both campus and surrounding community areas. Respond to general inquiries related to Department policies, procedures, or services. Enforce state, city, and University statutes, ordinances, and regulations.
Respond to emergency and routine calls. Provide a cooperative liaison with Milwaukee Police Department patrol and investigative units. When appropriate, detain suspects until Milwaukee Police Department is able to respond.
Render emergency assistance to members of the Marquette University community as necessary. Initiate in-depth written complaint reports on all incidents of crime, suspicious persons or circumstances, motor vehicle accidents, or circumstances which might pose questionable liability to the University. Interview victims, complainants, witnesses, and suspects relative to investigations. Prepare related documentation and reports.
Provide on-the-job training for new officers as necessary. Participate in presentations to various groups regarding Public Safety and security topics. Provide security services to all campus areas including building patrol and locking of buildings. Provide crisis intervention to disturbed or emotional groups. Perform any and all related duties as required or assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Requires high school education; must be at least 21 years of age; possess a valid Wisconsin driver's license with favorable driving record; and ability to pass extensive background investigation.
Prior related experience (preferably in campus law enforcement) or comparable formal education is necessary.
Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills; diplomacy and tact in dealing with sensitive situations; ability to maintain strict confidentiality; ability to exercise sound judgment and work independently; and a strong commitment to providing top-quality customer service.
Ability to interact professionally and effectively with diverse publics is required.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Prior military experience and law enforcement certification preferred. Post-secondary degree or course-work in law enforcement.
