Purchasing Agent / Plant Buyer - Entry Level - Federal Division

About the Job

What you will do
Under general supervision, purchases materials and services that meet the operation’s requirements for quality, delivery, price, terms, lead times, and inventory levels.

Location: Grantley Plant in York, PA
Benefits: Eligible for benefits on first day of employment
Vacation: Eligible for 3 weeks of paid vacation per calendar year

How you will do it
1. Supports buyers and purchasing manager on procurement issues, i.e. invoice and receipt discrepancies, expediting orders.
2. Conducts quoting activities and negotiates with suppliers on price, quality and service on assigned purchased commodities to ensure best total cost.
3. Procures materials and complex items at the best price from reliable sources, consistent with established standards to meet the goals of JCI regarding inventory turns, cost, quality, and customer requirements.
4. Assists in the supplier qualification process, per the JCI ISO Supplier Selection Procedure, and supports cross-functional teams in auditing/qualifying new sources of supply.
5. Places purchase orders and communicates blanket order/ master scheduling/ forecasting requirements to suppliers. Follows-up and expedites orders to obtain proper, on-time delivery. Provides assistance to the materials group in expediting and de-expediting purchase order releases.
6. Determines most economical lot size and supplier lead times for purchasing components.
7. Plans and prioritizes activities, suggests and implements process improvements aimed at increasing customer service levels, commodity cost reduction, lead time reduction and supplier consolidation projects.
8. Supports inventory management programs with supply base that includes vendor stocking, consignment, vendor-managed inventory, etc.
9. Establishes and maintains a harmonious relationship with vendors or prospective vendors in order to enhance the performance and reputation of the company.
10. Advises management of improvements on materials and equipment, price changes, marketing changes and source changes.
11. Supports company’s initiatives for selecting minority owned and small disadvantaged business suppliers.
12. Cognizant and compliant with ITAR regulations as applicable to technical information and products.
13. Purchases in accordance with FAR/DFAR and Government Purchasing requirements.
14. Maintains data integrity of ERP System, Deltek Costpoint.
15. Writes contracts and supports contract administration for standard products.
16. Assists quality department in resolving supplier quality issues. Provides assistance to quality group in expediting and de-expediting as needed.
17. Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
18. Adheres to the Company’s Code of Conduct and Business Ethics standards.

What we look for

1. U.S. Citizen

2. Demonstrated effective analytical and communication skills; both written and verbal. 

3. Proficient computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office Suite programs, preferably with Excel.

1. Bachelor’s Degree in business or equivalent experience.

2. Experience in purchasing or production and inventory control.

3. Experience in a team environment.

4. Experience with purchasing in a manufacturing or production environment
