Position Summary:
This position will manage and be held accountable for all aspects of the supply base to ensure cost, quality, delivery and inventory objectives are realized and contractual requirements are achieved. This position is also responsible for managing existing and new suppliers to support new product development, engineering change, re-sourcing and outsourcing initiatives.
Essential Functions:
Create and implement an effective supplier performance management system with the purpose of improving total cost, delivery, quality and lead time metrics.
Create and implement an effective cost reduction process to identify, prioritize and achieve on-going cost savings across the supply base consistent with Company targets.
Supervise, lead and direct the purchasing department staff so that department objectives are met or exceeded on a consistent basis.
Prepare annual goals and objectives for purchasing team, track progress and intervene where necessary to ensure goals and objectives are met.
Negotiate price and terms with suppliers consistent with objectives and recommend suppliers with respect to cost, quality and delivery to meet company standards.
Work with vendor base to shift more responsibility of holding inventory to suppliers through VMI or supplier-owned inventory programs.
Manage existing and new suppliers to support new product development, engineering change, re-sourcing and outsourcing initiatives.
Work closely with suppliers, planners, quality, engineering, operations, sales and management to identify cost reduction and service level improvements to include process/material changes and source of supply changes.
Effectively manage the execution of new product introduction, ECN’s and sourcing changes.
Ensure standard costs and lead-times are current, accurate and complete.
Supervise the purchasing department staff to include assignment of specific tasks, general workload, professional training, and other work-related duties.
Establish performance standards and goals for the purchasing team and monitor progress against those standards. Prepare formal performance evaluations each year.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business (logistics, accounting, finance) or engineering
Minimum of 5 years in a purchasing management role with experience in a manufacturing / distribution, high-SKU environment.
Successful track record of delivering results in the areas of cost reduction, service levels, quality and inventory levels.
Experience effectively working with a global supply base.
Possess a high degree of understanding of planning parameters and MRP systems.
Proficient with Microsoft Office in preparing reports and analyzing data.
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Exceptional organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills and a high degree of professionalism.
Results-oriented team player with a high level of integrity and customer focus.
Strong analytical and negotiation skills.
APICS certification (CPM, CPIM, or CSCP) preferred.
