Quality Control Specialist

About the Job

Astral Brands, Inc., a leading developer and marketer of premier makeup, skin care and professional products with brands designed to meet the needs of consumers, dermatologists, aestheticians and plastic surgeons is seeking to fill the position of Quality Control Specialist.  This position will be based out of the company distriubtion center in Kennesaw, GA. 


 


 



Job Responsibilities Related to Product Quality Assurance:


 



  • Document all component supplier quality control procedures and establish if they are acceptable.

  • Document all contact filler quality control procedures and evaluate whether they are sufficient to safeguard Astral quality standards.

  • Travel to component suppliers and contract fillers to audit QC procedures.

  • Perform advanced quality planning for new programs / processes.

  • Process development, procedure documentation, implementation, employee training, follow up and improvement. 

  • Supervise, train, guide, and develop quality personnel in carrying out quality plans and performing daily verification activities.

  • Audit / maintain consistency and adherence to established quality procedures and requirements.

  • Manage individual and group work plans to meet day-to-day and short-term objectives.

  • Function as a technical focal point for process control and quality assurance of business operations.

  • Promote a continuous improvement atmosphere.

  • Process map, identify improvement opportunities, define, present, and implement improvements in processes relating to quality of incoming and outgoing materials and processes.

  • Manage quality functions relative to raw materials and nonconforming products receiving.

  • Manage quality functions relative to process controls relative to inventory, picking, packaging, and shipping.

 




Job Responsibilities Related to Quality Control


 



  • Maintain Finished Product Standard Library

  • Maintain Finished Product Retains


    • Maintain Product Retain Log – keeping record of all lots delivered and all COA’s received with inbound shipment

  • Maintain Expiration Policy Procedures

  • Maintain Destruction Authorization and Verification Procedure for all products and components

  • Maintain all Quarantine transactions from placing products in through resolution and removal

  • Maintain incoming shipment product quality review procedure in the Kennesaw Distribution Center to evaluate quality of inbound shipments.  


    • Compare inbound shipments to established standards to ensure all received batches are within specifications as set by the Director of Purchasing / Product Development.   Parameters include but are not limited to:


      • General formula quality


        • Formula viscosity

        • Formula scent

        • Formula Appearance

        • Net Weight

      • Packaging quality


        • Graphics printing (primary and secondary packaging).

        • Crimping quality (tubes)

        • Torque (any packaging with a cap)

        • Closure quality.

        • Label application.

      • Packing

      • Product function

  • Manage the quality control log and respond to quality inquires in writing.  

  • Maintain vendor chargeback procedure, oversee and ensure all chargebacks are booked and properly processed through accounting.

  • Identify, resolve and prevent product quality issues,


    • Interface with suppliers and internal networks to reach resolution and establish preventive actions.

    • Document each issue and all important information gained during investigation and resolution.

    • Using a “hands on” approach, identify potential and existing quality problems; take appropriate action to prevent recurrences. 

    • Support problem resolution to customer/supplier problems; communicate with internal and external customers and suppliers to resolve issues.

 


 


Qualifications and Requirements:


 


Bachelors degree required


 


Lean concepts trained and capable; certifications such as CQE, Green or Black Belt, a plus.
 


Working knowledge of and experience in an ISO9000 environment.


 


Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Visio, Access, Project, Word)


 


Proficient in application of basic statistical tools, data analysis, and reporting quality performance metrics.


 


Self-starting, team player, strong interpersonal and communication skills. 


 


Excellent written and verbal communication skills, detail-oriented.


 


Team management skills.


 


Ability to quickly resolve issues through immediate action and/or short-term planning.
