Universal Alloy Corporation supplies aluminum extrusions to all major airframe manufactures, subcontractors, machining companies, and distributors. We traditionally have furnished the most difficult shapes in 2xxx, 5xxx, 6xxx, and 7xxx series alloys and metal matrix composites.
Under minimal supervision from the Quality and Metallurgy Manager, the Quality Engineer position is responsible for developing, maintaining and analyzing the quality systems at the Canton Plant in accordance with AS, ISO standards and customer requirements. Provides quality assurance leadership to all plant areas. This position works with all levels of plant personnel to interpret quality requirements, direct activities related to quality, train personnel in quality activities and assist the plant in monitoring and improving quality. Frequently represents the company to customers and suppliers.
Job Duties Include:
- Develops and maintains the quality systems for the Canton plant.
- Manages customer rejections and complaints and takes appropriate action.
- Directs training of quality personnel.
- Manages corrective and preventative actions, providing feedback to plant personnel of their status and ensures a timely response.
- Performs training on process improvement, statistical process control, lean manufacturing, dimensional inspection, metallurgical processes and general quality processes.
- Manages, conducts and initiates process improvement, internal quality and process audits, customer complaints and takes appropriate action.
- Review and implementation of quality system specifications.
- Tracks data and performs assessments on effectiveness of quality system and participates in presentations to senior management.
- Meets with customers at their facility or at UAC to resolve problems and to complete customer audit requirements.
- Visits suppliers to conduct audits and communicate requirements.
- Performs other required duties as needed in addition to the essential responsibilities described above.
- Complies with all company safety, health and environmental policies, rules and regulations.
- Familiarity and understanding of BSA's for related work areas.
- Personal protection equipment is to be worn and used at all times as required.
Basic Qualifications:
- Education: Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree, engineering degree preferred but not required
- Experience: 3 to 5 years of experience in the quality field
- Communication skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills at all levels of the organization. Must be able to resolve conflict with internal or external sources always in the utmost professional manner.
- Mathematical skills: Knowledgeable of statistical processes, ability to perform statistical analysis, and trigonometry.
- Reasoning Skills: Must posses excellent reasoning skills to solve technical problems.
- Certifications and Licenses: CQE or CQA certificates preferred but not required.
- Computer Skills: MS- Office Suite (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Word), familiarity with Minitab or other comparable statistical software
- Physical demands: Regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, use hand and fingers and communicate in a production environment.
