This position performs quality engineering assignments on Solid Rocket Motor and/or Liquid Rocket Engine programs in the DOD/Aerospace industry.
Provides quality engineering direction to the factory operators and inspectors. This includes, but is not limited to: Requirements interpretation, ensuring operators and inspectors have the correct understanding of engineering drawing implementation through manufacturing planning instructions, plan review and approval. Independently reviews manufacturing planning to ensure appropriate design engineering requirements implementation, material traceability maintenance, quality record maintenance and operator and inspector sign-offs. Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (PFMEA). Leads effort to quantify and reduce risk using this quality tool and is considered the process expert. Process Mistake Proofing/Improvement. Actively participates in improvement teams to reduce risk through the application of mistake proofing principles. Inspects method development and implementation. Develops, implements and monitors new or existing inspection methods to ensure products meet stated engineering requirements. Program and campus procedural compliance. Ensures compliance to all quality system requirements through a thorough knowledge of documented requirements. Process auditing. Independently conducts process audits to ensure processes are following manufacturing planning, program requirements and enterprise level command media.
Actively participates in the Material Review Board, including: Segregates and controls nonconforming hardware to preclude inadvertent processing; Dispositions nonconforming hardware; Prepares and conducts board meetings and implements disposition decisions.
Drives Corrective and Preventive Action to ensure continual improvement, including investigating and determining root causes of problems and developing and implementing corrective and preventative actions. Manages other projects as assigned. Provides imaginative, thorough and practical solutions to a wide range of technical problems through the application of quality engineering disciplines and tools.
Bachelor's degree in an appropriate engineering discipline or physical science and at least 2 years of related experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
Requires technical knowledge of engineering and manufacturing processes as well as technical knowledge of quality engineering tools and quality systems. Prefer experience in aerospace industry on Solid Rocket Motor or Liquid Rocket Engine programs. ASQ certifications are a plus. Must be a self-starter, be willing to learn, communicate well and have an excellent work ethic and interpersonal skills.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship).
