Overall responsibility of this position is to supervise the Inspection Department and coordinate inspection activities with a proactive commitment to safety and quality. Initially, focus will be on analyzing and developing/re-developing systems, procedures and processes to improve our inspection process work flow. Communicating expectations, motivating employees and holding them accountable will be critical in achieving success. The efficiency and effectiveness of our Inspection Department has a significant impact on customer satisfaction, as well as overall plant performance.
Approximately 80% of the incumbent’s time will be spent in directing, controlling, delegating, reviewing, checking and eliminating ordinary difficulties, requiring the use of a wide range of procedures and the exercise of judgment in the analysis of facts and circumstances surrounding individual problems (within the scope of shift supervisory responsibilities) to determine what action should be taken, within the limits of standard practice.
The balance of the time will be spent in administrative work such as production records, inventory records, personnel records or in maintenance related activities.
Duties:
Requirements
· 4 year undergraduate degree in Engineering or equivalent technical degree
· 5+ years of quality and/or manufacturing experience
· 2+ years of supervisory experience with direct reports in a quality or manufacturing environment
· 4+ years of inspection experience
· Must be a strong leader with a track record of results in the overall operations
· Must be proficient with Microsoft Office.
· Must be able to read customer drawings/specs and understand the principles of measurement.
· Ability to independently measure, create and develop systems and processes to improve quality work flow.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Proactive commitment to safety
· Ability to answer technical questions from shop, inspectors, and customers
· Ability to apply product knowledge and technical skills to aid in problem solving with inspectors independently with minimum supervision
Additional preferred experience
· Metallurgy, castings or metalworking experience
· Background in Statistical Process Control, Six-Sigma and Lean Manufacturing.
· Knowledge of statistical software (Statistical Process Control or Minitab)
· Previous Llevel II and/or Level III certifications in Nondestructive Testing, in accordance with ASNT-TC-1A, to include Liquid Penetrant Inspection (FPI), Visual Examination, Radiography (X-ray) and Ultrasonic (UT) Examination. The greater the number of certifications, the more desirable the candidate would be.
