TurboFab, a facility of Solar Turbines, specializes in the fabrication of generator and turbine platforms, as well as pipe spooling, process skid and turbine base assembly, painting, testing, electrical assembly, and instrumentation.
 
TurboFab is a fully-integrated, wholly-owned fabrication and machining facility located just east of Houston along the Carpenter's Bayou Barge Canal in Channelview, Texas. TurboFab fabricates many products for both Solar Turbines and Caterpillar, in taking great advantage of its 1200 feet of waterfront access and 50-acre state-of-the-art facility. Some of the products presently produced by TurboFab include: Turbine package bases for all Solar product lines, Large single lift module systems - weighing up to 1000 tons each, Skid-mounted fuel treatment systems, Process equipment skids, Pipe valve skids and Caterpillar power generation package containers.
 
We currently have a career opportunity for a Quality Manager at our TurboFab facility in Channelview, Texas.
 

Position Objective:

 

This position is responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of the Quality Management System within TurboFab. 

Nature and Scope:

 

Responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of quality practices, procedures and programs that assure the fabrication of TurboFab product to acceptable quality standards.  This position interfaces with all company departments and with all operations of Solar Turbines that utilize TurboFab’s manufacturing to achieve a culture committed to meeting the customer’s expectations for product quality.   Has overall responsibility to ensure top tier measurements of quality are collected and maintained. Develop process plans for improvement and provide accurate/timely responses to internal and external customer quality issues.

Principal Accountabilities:

 

  1. Comply with all of TurboFab’s Environmental, Health and Safety Programs, Regulations and Guidelines.
  2. Provide leadership and coordination for audits and insuring compliance with the ISO 9001/2008 requirements.
  3. Direct the quality assurance process to support continuous quality improvement as necessary through the audits systems review, reporting procedures, instructions and guidelines to all TurboFab departments and vendors to assure zero defects performance and customer satisfaction.
  4. Direct the Discrepancy Notice process of TurboFab.  Provide weekly and monthly updates, charts and graphs.  Categorize data and provide plan to eliminate recurring quality issues.
  5. Provide leadership of the TurboFab Corrective Action process that includes collecting, monitoring, organizing, resolving and timely feedback on quality issues including Discrepancy Notices, MRCA and QCIR’s.
  6. Establish and issue an inspection checklist for fabrication processes in the base shop.
  7. Maintain quality data into usable spreadsheets to allow for accurate, and timely retrievable information.
  8. Primary liaison with external customers on all quality related issues.
  9. Prepare ITP’s as needed on base products.
  10. Responsibility of organizing efforts to capture critical quality data to reduce repeat quality issues.
  11. Update ISO process flows to show quality improvements and additional work instructions.
  12. Continuously provide list of needs for quality tools needed to verify the quality requirements are met.
  13. Responsibility for providing feedback on cost of quality including monitoring, reporting and resolving vendor quality issues.
  14. Provide leadership to insure the QC inspectors meet their job accountabilities.
  15. Responsibility to responding to customer issues in the project area.
  16. Responsible for Lean/CPS and Six Sigma data collection and reporting.  
  17. Provide required leadership in the area of process improvement and preventive action programs.
  18. Interview and hire skilled QC personnel to meet department job requirements.
  19. Ensure quality documents are stored according to CAT Retention Policy.
  20. Maintain quality records in an orderly systematic manner, providing customer required job books and documentation.
  21. Responsible for evaluating and providing response to Customer specific specification.
  22. Coordinate quality activities with TurboFab management.
  23. Provide management oversight to maintain the on-line QMS system.
  24. Responsible for direct input to the developing, organizing, and coordinating of Quality Management Meetings.
  25. Provide direction to Welding Specialist.

 

 

Knowledge:

 

Background will include a minimum of five or more years of manufacturing experience, formal training and/or extensive on the job training in Quality in the manufacturing environment with emphasis on applicable provisions on ANSI and ASME codes.  Must have overall knowledge in all fabrication standards and codes applicable to the oil and gas industry.  Must have thorough knowledge and understanding of computers, Excel, Word, etc.   College degree or equivalent experience required.   Thorough familiarity with inspection tools and industrial fabrication experience required.
