Job Overview:

Responsible, in partnership with the production / engineering Management Team, for establishing the continuous improvement strategy to support the organization’s manufacturing quality and cost reduction goals.  In addition, this position will ensure that the plant meets both internal and external customer expectations.  This position will continually analyze and quantify waste and quality deficiencies using a defined cost of poor quality model along with other key metrics to prioritize and identify the most critical areas of impact to bottom line and customer satisfaction. This position to lead the quality engineering, process improver, incoming inspection and calibration staff.  

Essential Job Functions:

  • Leverages the efforts of the quality and manufacturing teams via a systematic and “just-in-time” introduction of process improvement tools to reduce variation in operation.  The incumbent will be a recognized expert for Structured Problem Solving, 5S, Mistake-Proofing and process capability tools required to drive the continuous improvement culture into the organization.  The incumbent to develop a strong team of quality engineers and process improvers to sustain customer satisfaction.
  • Responsible for planning, leading, educating and assisting the site staff in the execution of the established continuous improvement strategy through recommendation and strategic implementation of metrics, tools and training.
  • Instills a disciplined approach to seek out and eliminate quality problems at all levels of the organization. This is achieved through a sustained, results-oriented process to instill this culture changing mindset into all levels of the organization through leadership, tools, metrics and training.
  • Defines a roadmap of continuous improvement for the organization by establishing priorities, methods and strategies for implementation using data to both guide the process as well as monitor the result.
  • Analyzes failures, determines cause, determines responsibility, and initiates corrective action.
  • Reviews test procedures (functional, acceptance/qualification) for completeness with regard to technical content, test equipment and test data; provide assistance to inspection test stations.
  • As the supplier quality manager the incumbent to resolves quality problems with Crane Aerospace suppliers by leading and managing the Procurement Quality Engineering staff.
  • Participates in program and design reviews to contribute to assuring that product quality objectives are met.
  • Acts as quality interface for all customers, keeping track of customer specific quality requirements and assuring conformance. Maintain metrics on quality system performance utilizing data mining of support systems Perform internal system audits to AS9100.
  • The incumbent to work side by side with “Quality Systems Manager” in finding IT/System Solutions to our Quality Challenges.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience: 10+ years experience in demonstrated process improvement success; proven accomplishments utilizing OpEx and Lean tools/methodologies; Certified Champion in the following OpEx tools (or plan to complete training for required certification within twelve-month period of entering position): Structured Problem Solving, 5S, Mistake-Proofing and process capability tools required to drive the continuous improvement culture into the organization.  Minimum 4 years management experience.  7+ years experience as a Quality Manager in and Aerospace environment or in a similar manufacturing situation preferred.
  • Knowledge: An understanding and proficiency in Change Management; Broad business knowledge; Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming; Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services; Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models; Knowledge of the characteristics of metals, chemical processes, electricity and other elements.
  • Skills: Demonstrated leadership and facilitation skills in a matrix environment; demonstrated ability to motivate all levels of the organization; Strong team formation and leadership skills; Strong project management and organizational skills; Excellent oral and written communication skills, to include presentation skills and facilitation of groups toward deliverables; Proficient in the use of Word and Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, statistical software (i.e. Minitab or equivalent); Troubleshooting (determining causes of operating errors and decides what to do about it). Complex Problem Solving (identifies complex problems and reviews related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions).
  • Ability: Ability to link customer needs and business processes; Deductive Reasoning (the ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense); Inductive Reasoning (the ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions, includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events); Near Vision (the ability to see details at close range, within a few feet of the observer); Problem Sensitivity (the ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong); Extensive conceptual and analytical ability in order to conceive quality requirements in designs, production operations and processes; Ability to effectively establish rapport, techniques, and strategy to be used in personal contact with the various operational and staff groups and all levels of employees to ensure effective industrial working relationships; Extensive ability to effectively express self orally and in writing to prepare comprehensive analyses, procedures, and reports; Thorough knowledge of and ability to competently apply analytical statistics and other math functions in order to accomplish tasks such as recommend design changes, sampling plans, make trend analyses.
  • Education/Certification: B.S. degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, or related field.
  • Eligibility Requirement: Must be a US Person (under ITAR rules) to be eligible.  This is an FAA Safety Sensitive position.

Work Environment:

  • Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment. Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to safety glasses, heel straps, and shop coats.
  • Requires approximately 5% travel to support customers
