Valeo Sylvania is a leader in the automotive lighting industry and supplies advanced lighting assemblies for forward, rear, signaling, and interior applications to the major automotive manufacturers in the United States. The operation was founded in 1978 and is a joint venture with 50/50 ownership between Valeo and OSRAM Sylvania. Our headquarters, including manufacturing and R&D, is located in Seymour, Indiana and allows us to be close to our customers: Ford, General Motors, Chrysler, Nissan, Honda, and Toyota. Valeo Sylvania also operates a manufacturing facility in Queretaro, Mexico and a sales office in Dearborn, Michigan. The company is home to nearly 1,500 employees, and we are looking for talented individuals to join our team! Valeo Sylvania, a leader in the automotive lighting industry, is seeking an R&D Program Team Member. This position will be responsible for the following: Create robust products, desired by the market, based on a rigorous application of standards. Develop multiple innovative products concurrently. Continuously improve the cost and quality of products. Comprehend customer and Valeo requirements in the products.
•Product Technical Design:
Responsible for the technical design of the lamp(s) (headlamp, projector module, rear lamp, foglamp or CHSML). Technical design stands for mechanics, material selection, optics, electronics, reliability test and regulation. Manages within the project team the technical design of the product respecting quality, cost, and lead time targets. Takes into account style requirements coming either from the customer or VLS proposals. Leads the CAD technical design in respect with internal VLS methodology for CATIA and PDM tools (Product Data Management). Responsible for technical datas (BOM, technical specifications, drawings, suppliers and customers specifications) and their availability in the PDM. Builds mock ups when necessary and responsible for the prototypes definition and realization (tools, parts). Participates to the analysis of characteristic parameters (ex: dimensions for mechanical parts, retention force for a connector, optical flux value for a LED, etc.). Ensures the tuning of the product during the industrialization phase and manages the necessary modifications. Must reach a full product and process validation. Ensures that end of phase 4b is accepted only if all drawings are up to date and compliant with production parts.
•Standardization:
Ensures the technical design complies with DGL (standard Design GuideLines), standard components, and standard materials. Submits the DDD (Destandardization request) every time a deviation from a standard has to be justified. Prepares the standardization audit with the standardization member of the division. Calculates and reports the standardization ratio for the project.

Participates with the purchasing department in the selection of suppliers. Controls and validates the design delivered by integrated suppliers. Responsible to get simulations done for mechanics, optics, thermal, rheology, condensation, pedestrian protection, etc. according to simulation development plan (included in DVPNR) – must include results to get good technical design. Organizes DR (Design Reviews) according to standard procedure (GST documents templates, checklists, tools). Responsible for the DVPNR (Design Verification Plan and Report) until end of phase 2 (DV on prototype parts). Organizes DFMEA meetings (Design Failure Mode Effect Analysis) and manages actions follow up – attends PFMEA meetings (Process FMEA). Responsible for the product justification file (DFMEA, dimensional chain analysis, test reports, simulation reports, design review report…). Participates in QRQC analysis (Quick Response Quality Concern).
•Project Management Budget:
Estimates the necessary budget for the design activities of the project (resources, external purchases) and validates with his/her management (design office manager and project manager). Manages design activities and his/her dedicated team in accordance with this defined budget (CAD, optical, electronic, reliability, and regulation contributors). Manages remote resources located at CTC if necessary. Manages the time schedule of activities and must ensure it is compliant with the project time schedule.
