SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:
This position will work in our H-E-B San Antonio Manufacturing Division and reports to the Senior Research and Development Manager. The incumbent will perform the following duties and responsibilities: This position acts as a functional manager within an area of expertise but does not manage more than 2 employees. Develops strategy and sets functional policy and direction. Leads cross-division functional teams. May participate in cross-division, multi-functional teams. Provides mentoring and guidance to lower level employees.
- Technologist provides specialized knowledge in a technical field (chemistry, food technology and/or microbiology) for the development of new and improved products and processes from concept to plant launch.
- Strong meat science background and experience in developing case-ready and value-added products. Knowledge of muscle science, meat quality research, shelf life research, and manufacturing equipment including packaging and slicing technology.
- Additional work experience in one or more of the following areas is also desirable: dairy, snack food, and/or baked goods product development.
- Performs advanced analysis, testing and experimentation in the development and/or improvement of products and production processes.
- Provides direction and guidance in the assimilation of data contributed for the preparation of and prepares technical proposals, amendments, reports and terminations.
- Operates or directs the operation of laboratory equipment or apparatus in the performance of tests or experiments.
- Maintains and advises with regard to patentable and technical developments in field of specialty.
- Responsible for the creation and leadership of cutting edge process development through the research and adaptation of industry best practices.
REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION:
- Master of Science in Food Technology/Food Science or any related field and 3-5 years of related experience or a BS degree with 5 years of relevant experience.
- Must have technical training related to Sensory Evaluations, Designs of Experiment, and Technical knowledge of related equipment.
- Demonstrated advanced mathematical skills.
- Advanced computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint).
- Advanced analytical ability, troubleshooting and decision-making skills.
- Advanced communication skills (verbal and written).
- Demonstrated proficiency with operating internal and external software systems at an intermediate level; proficient with Genesis or similar Nutritional labeling software.
- Advanced influence/persuasion skills with a demonstrated history of proper application.
- High level attention to detail.
- Advanced working knowledge and compliance with: Industry, EEOC and Employment Laws.
- Advanced working knowledge of HACCP, USDA, OSHA, FDA, and other state weight and measure requirements.
- Ability to lead and motivate Partners in both non-exempt & exempt roles.
