Job Purpose:


Supports the day-to-day operations of Emergency Physicians Medical Center by producing general and specific x-rays for diagnostic purposes.


Education:


Graduation from accredited radiology technology training program. Requires current certification and/or state licensure in radiology technology. A minimum of two (2) years experience as radiology technician.


Skills and Qualifications


Must have knowledge of modern x-ray equipment and familiarity with routine radiological procedures. Must be able to accurately read and write medical terminology. Able to make accurate and intelligent observations.


 


Must be highly attentive to detail and highly organized. Must be able to work independently. Must value working in a positive team environment with shared responsibilities. Must have the ability to manage a number of activities concurrently and adjust rapidly to changing working conditions.  Must possess excellent communications skills both in person and over the phone with experience communicating with a variety of healthcare providers. Must have basic computer skills such as Internet, E-mail, word processing and spreadsheets.


 


Overview of Responsibilities


The Emergency Physicians Medical Center radiological technologist will be responsible for operating X-ray and fluoroscopic equipment for assisting physicians with diagnosing and/or treating disease and/or injury.


Job Description


Clinical Duties:



  • Prepares room, equipment and materials for diagnostic tests as ordered by the physicians.
  • Helps patients feel comfortable during the entire process by explaining procedures.
  • Positions patients and arranges immobilization and support devices for patients.


  • Administers contrast media to patients for gastrointestinal and other special studies.


  • Adjusts and sets radiographic controls to prescribed specifications for proper voltage and exposure time.
  • Checks X-rays for clarity of image and retakes X-rays when needed.  
  • Practices radiation protection techniques which meet or exceed recommended industry standards to limit radiation exposure to patients and staff.


  • Maintains quality control checks to ensure that all equipment is in good working condition and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.


  • Makes minor adjustments to radiographic equipment as appropriate or determines repairs needed and make appropriate arrangements in order to maintain safety at all times.
  • Implements infection control procedures for the work area.
  • Maintains required records such as patient records, daily logbooks and monthly reports. Logs radiological procedures and completes paperwork accurately and on time.
  • Maintains radiographic supplies and equipment.


  • Schedules appointments with local hospitals or diagnostic centers for patients needing special examinations or additional diagnostic tests.
  • Maintains examination rooms. Stocks necessary office and radiological supplies.
  • Requests, retrieves and tracks films from other centers as appropriate.
  • Works closely with the physician to receive guidance and instruction for treating patients.


  • Performs selected nursing and administrative/clerical duties that assist in the delivery of care and patient care management under the direction of a physician.
  • Provides patient care by assisting the physicians in examining and treating patients.
  • Prepares the examination rooms including cleaning as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
