Overview:
· This position is located in RAS and Data Systems, System Control Engineering, Engineering and Technical Services.
· This function in the RAS and Data Systems group is responsible for the design of remedial action schemes that control electric power substations and associated electrical facilities and the specification and ordering of materials for construction of these facilities.
· Remedial action schemes include, but are not limited to, generation dropping, line loss logic, and stability controls and may be controlled locally (i.e., within or close to the substation being controlled) or remotely (i.e., from a distant control center). Job function includes production of drawings, bills of material, and other design documents, initiation of equipment procurement, generation of material requests, development of design standards and standard specifications and coordination of construction for electrical projects. Support and expertise is provided to other organizations in development of plans, estimates, customer agreements, contracts and resolution of construction and field maintenance problems.
Skill Requirements:
The RAS Engineer will:
· Be responsible for the design of control systems for new and existing substations including all necessary research, coordination, and design calculations in order to develop accurate design drawings and specify material and equipment to be used in the construction of control systems for substations.
· Guide the pre-construction planning, engineering and design efforts for installation and configuration of control equipment at substations and control centers.
· Establish the engineering requirements and technical and design parameters for the development of substation control equipment and support facilities, and ensures that they meet all functional, operational, maintenance, reliability, and safety requirements.
· Make recommendations and provide interpretations on the application of the National Electrical Code, the National Electrical Safety Code, and other electric utility and control industry standards to substation control designs and related work.
