REGISTERED NURSE

About the Job

Provide RN services in our Boston, Newton and Westborough residences. Work directly with adults who have developmental and physical disabilities. 30 hour/week. Benefits available!


 


The person in this position will work with TILL's  programs and will be involved with the overall health and well being of the individuals and increased medical awareness and knowledge of TILL's staff members. Registered Nurses report directly to the Director of Health Services.


 


 


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:


 


1.      Develop individual health care plans.


 


2.      Assist individuals in understanding nutrition, sex education, health and personal hygiene, through either individual or group sessions or through staff training in those areas.


 


3.      Locate medical resources for each program.


 


4.      Coordinate with medical resources, families, and other staff members when intervention is appropriate.


 


5.      Participate in medical reviews and ISPs related to health needs.


 


6.      Develop training materials related to health care.


 


7.      Review new individual referrals and participate in admission decisions.


 


8.      Review individual histories and develop medical summaries for program use.


 


9.      Administer medications and monitor medication effects.


 


10.    Develop procedures and ensure safe policies in each program involving medication administration, food preparation, sanitary conditions, and medication storage.


 


11.    Provide information to staff regarding medication, side effects, etc.


 


12.    Prepare and present in-service training in areas related to health care, personal hygiene, and overall medical issues.


 


13.    Obtain physician referrals for individuals' Medicaid related referrals, e.g., PT, OT, Speech.


 


14.    Participate as a member of Day Hab clinical team.


 


15.    Write monthly progress notes.  To be reviewed by supervising RN.


 


16.    Assist in individual skills development in feeding, personal hygiene, and self-medication.


 


17.    Monitor individuals’ health status.


 


18.    Treat minor injuries and assess illnesses.


 


19.    Provide on-site emergency care.


 


20.    Implement TILL policies and procedures related to health  care, medication administration, and sanitation.


 


21.    Act as a resource to families and residential staff on health care issues.


 


22.    Maintain individual medical information in confidential files.


 


23.    Provide staff in-service training in areas related to health care, personal hygiene, and general medical issues.


 


24.    Teach, or assist in teaching, CPR and First Aid to certify staff.


 


25.    Work on obtaining medical guardianship as needed for individuals.


 


QUALIFICATIONS:


 


Minimum current RN degree, license in Massachusetts, and BA/BS in Nursing or related field, experience working with a developmentally disabled population.  Supervisory experience preferred.  Current driver's license and car are required.  Must possess good writing and oral skills to effectively communicate current needs and objectives, as well as for providing effective training and consultation to staff. Must be able to physically assist individuals in activities of daily living, including lifting, hand-over-hand assistance, and passive restraints. CPR and First Aid are a condition of employment.
