RF Communication Engineer

Comtek has 2 immediate openings in Maryland for an RF Communication Engineer.  These positions are
contract to hire with a review between 3-6 months.  In addition, these positions are directly working with NASA in the Maryland area. 

 

This individual will be responsible for sustaining engineering design and upgrade development for NASA GSFC(conceptual development, proposal, detail design, prototypes, testing, production, fielding, training, etc.). Specific assignments will include: assisting in troubleshooting of operational systems; coordinate/lead design of new systems/subsystems involving L-band radar and FHSS or C-band telemetry; develop text, diagrams, tables, and charts for training and Operation and Maintenance manuals; research and qualify replacement parts for obsolete items in support of current product line. Organization interfaces are typically other engineering staff members, customer technical staff and field engineers.  Secondary assignments may include engineering support of related product electronic systems.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS -

·         Architects and designs Radio Frequency systems and circuitry.

·         Designs and develops RF circuitry used in high frequency and microwave applications, including receivers, transmitters, antennas, and frequency synthesizers.

·         Responsible for hardware layout, component evaluation, prototype construction, and test.

·         Provides inputs to Product Development for formal documentation and supports manufacturing during the deliverable assembly and test phase. In addition, develops RF System/Subsystem Architectures consisting of: antennas, transmitters, receivers, low noise amplifiers, high power amplifiers, RF conversion elements and transmission line equipment.

·         Performs link analysis and optimization, including effects of propagation medium and possible interference sources.

 

DELIVERY/PERFORMANCE RELATED -

·         Develops and allocates RF system and subsystem functional and performance requirements. Identifies and tracks RF technical performance measurements (TPMs).

·         Prepares test methods and specifications; analyzes and tests RF hardware to verify performance characteristics.

 

COST COMPETITIVENESS/LEAN OPERATIONS –

Performs RF system/subsystem/component trade studies and CAIV analysis. Supports Life Cycle Costs, reliability, availability, and maintainability analysis.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 15 years of professional experience; or 10 years of professional experience with a related Masters degree. Considered an emerging authority.
  • Proficient in RF circuit design and defining the necessary RF components/subsystems needed to develop a radar system, for aeronautics or space and related analysis/calculations to determine resulting performance characteristics.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications suite (Word, Excel, Visio and Project).
  • Experience with OrCAD Schematic Capture, Altera MAX+plus II or Quartus II development software for programmable logic, AutoCAD, and Genesis 2003 by Eagleware.
