DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

The Surety Systems Engineering Department designs, tests, and deploys surety systems for various applications. The department has a broad mix of skills and technical resources in areas such as digital communications, sensors, radio frequency (RF)/microwave, field-programmable gate array (FPGA) design, power supply technology, general electronics-circuit design, digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms and coding, mechanical design and analysis, and systems engineering.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Our department is seeking RF and communication engineers to join multidisciplinary teams that are designing and developing advanced communication systems for a variety of applications. We are looking for engineers who can apply engineering principles and working knowledge to a range of RF and communications problems that require imaginative and practical solutions. As a member of Sandia’s technical staff, each engineer will direct and perform engineering work while exercising independent judgment and actions. Engineers will be involved in all aspects of the development process of these communication devices and systems, including design, simulation, system architecture, prototype definition, and subsystem and system-level testing. Specific functional responsibilities include but are not limited to design, simulation, and analysis at all stages of RF systems design, using analytical techniques and tools (e.g., MATLAB, ADS, and HFSS).

QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a master’s degree or a PhD in electrical engineering with an excellent academic record in RF/microwave circuitry design, DSP, or communication system design. Candidates must be able to work in a team-oriented environment and must be able to work cooperatively with other Sandia organizations. Some limited travel may be necessary.

Desired qualifications include (1) previous experience in RF subsystem or microwave circuitry design, (2) strong skills with MATLAB or other design tools (e.g., ADS or HFSS), and (3) experience in leading a research-and-development project.

Candidate must be able to obtain a U.S. Department of Energy security clearance for this position. To obtain a security clearance, U.S. citizenship is required.
