Be in charge of a group of very dedicated nurses, ensuring that they are able to provide the highest quality of care for our residents. Involved in hiring, orientation, monitoring their skills and training them to do their best. Responsibilities:

Inservices and education for TC unit staff


Audits for PI and Quality Assurance


Research and documentation of outcome studies


Program development



Summary: Supervises and coordinates the efforts of nursing staff and provides total nursing care for residents. Scope of work may be modified by state specific rules under the Nurse Practice Act.


Qualifications:



Education:



Graduate of accredited school of nursing, BS preferred


.

Licenses/Certification:


Valid RN license in the state employed.


Valid CPR certification.


Experience:


Five years experience in nursing; Critical Care experience preferred, one year of supervisory is preferred.


Essential Functions:



Manages area of responsibility with the goal of achieving and maintaining the highest quality of care possible.


Monitor employees to assure overtime is not being done without prior approval.


Recommends plans for staff training and development using quality assurance indicators, incident report investigations, and direct observation.


Participates in counseling, disciplinary action and termination of staff, to extent permitted by state practice act.


Contacts physicians as necessary and ensures physicians interventions are timely and appropriate.


Monitor chart audit weekly for all patients assign to the unit.(all assessments, MAR's, flow sheets, treatment sheets)


Supervises nursing unit, which includes scheduling and directing the nursing staff to extent permitted by state practice act.


Monitor meals and 15 minute breaks to assure employees are in compliance.


Recommends plans for staff training and development using quality assurance indicators, incident report investigations, and direct observation.


Monitor food cart to assure meals are served in a timely manner.


Coordinates the effective use of personnel, supplies, equipment and facilities.


Monitor nursing care for residents and rounds at least 2 times a day


Recommends the purchase of materials or equipment for the improvement of nursing services.


Monitor the noise level on unit to assure noise is at a minimal.


Ensures the appropriate and timely documentation of resident care activities.


Monitor Resident Quality indicators and document in Medical Records monthly.


Investigates complaints and takes necessary action to resolve.


Participates in nurse on-call system


Reviews staffing patterns and census of nursing units, and reassigns personnel when necessary to ensure staffing meets resident needs and budgetary controls.


Obtains medications, supplies and medical records needed to provide safe, efficient and therapeutic care to residents on a continuing basis.


Review charts and fill out 71


₁₂each month by the 10th of the month.

Assists in the orientation of new personnel, monitors their skills, and guides and observes staff who may need assistance with procedures. Evaluation of all employees working that unit 1st, 2nd and 3rd shift.


Participates in developing, implementing and evaluating programs that promote the recruitment, retention, development and continuing education of nursing staff members.


Recaps for all discharges residents within five days of discharge.


 


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:



Skilled in directing and motivating the workforce.


Ability to communicate effectively with residents and their family members, and at all levels of the organization.


Ability to react decisively and quickly in emergency situations.


Ability to organize and prioritize.


Knowledge of training techniques for clinical staff.


Ability to maintain confidentiality



 
  • Supervise nursing unit including scheduling and directing the nursing staff to the extent permitted by the State Practice Act

  • Coordinate effective use of personnel, supplies, equipment and facilities; obtain medications and medical records to provide safe, efficient and therapeutic care to residents

  • Contact physicians as necessary and ensure physician interventions are timely and appropriate; ensure appropriate documentation of resident care

  • Review staffing patterns and census of nursing units; reassign personnel when necessary to ensure residents needs and budgetary controls are met

  • Investigate complaints and take necessary action to resolve problems

  • Effective communication skills, the ability to organize, prioritize, and maintain confidentiality, and react decisively in emergencies are all necessary for this position. Must show skill in directing and motivating staff. Candidates must have graduated from an accredited school of nursing, (BS preferred) with a valid RN or LPN/LVN state license and CPR certification. Five years of experience in nursing with one year as a supervisor are preferred.
