Job Description


The Business Development department is responsible for leading global business development and marketing of Catalent to pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and virtual pharmaceutical prospects as well as existing customers of other Catalent businesses.  Qualified candidates must have contract pharmaceutical industry sales experience to be considered for this opportunity.
The Account Director is a business development professional accountable for selling assigned technologies into an assigned territory. This position is the primary point-of-contact for customers of these technologies within this territory. He/she is an experienced professional who has been promoted from an Account Manager role.  This position could be based in the Dallas/Ft. Worth, St. Louis or Chicago area reporting to our Middleton, WI office.

Specific Duties, Activities, and Responsibilities:
  • Individual technology sales.
  • Promote the technology within the territory and relevant Global Account Director accounts.
  • Identify and recommend new technologies to customers.
  • Establish and develop long-term company-to-company relationships with customers’ decision makers.
  • Collaborate with Global Account Directors in the construction and execution of their strategic account plan(s).
  • Comply with Catalent account management and reporting processes and tools.
  • Support certain initiatives for Operational Excellence.
  • Input to site capacity and order prioritization decisions.
  • Facilitate customer access to other Catalent representatives as required.
  • Ensure customer is up-to-date with any new products within the technology.
  • Develop innovative solutions for customers.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal and fiduciary standards and policies.
  • Contract coordination or contract coordinator support.
  • Maintain open communication throughout the organization especially in regards to cross-site and cross-business unit customer efforts.
  • Support the project management process.
  • Gather customer intelligence and ensure VPBD is aware of significant developments at the client.
  • All other duties as assigned.
     


Job Requirements:
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or doctorate’s degree in chemistry or other relevant field
  • 10 years experience including 5 years direct sales experience in the contract pharmaceutical industry
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Assigned sales goals are met
  • There is a plan to reach the sales target for the assigned territory and technology, which has the support of the responsible VPGM, VPBD and/or Director of BD, and is implemented and updated when necessary
  • Support is provided when setting territory goals
  • Existing Catalent business in the territory is protected and maintained
  • New opportunities in the territory are identified and closed
  • Customers are fully supported with technical information and insight
  • Customers are fully supported with production information and likely schedule
  • Global Account Directors and other Account Managers/Directors are supported with technical knowledge and other insights to capitalize on opportunities
  • Cross-selling opportunities within the territory are identified and referred to the relevant Account Managers/Directors and the Global Account Director
  • Operations are aware of opportunities that could impact production requirements, the likely volume and features required, and the likely timing
  • Complies with all Catalent standards and programs
  • Understands own role and that of VPGM,, VPBD and/or Director of BD, and Global Account Director
  • Works effectively with Global Account Directors in support of overall Catalent strategy at assigned accounts
  • Catalent resources are assembled and managed to enable contract negotiations in a timely, effective manner
  • Relationships with all Catalent businesses and sites are working effectively
  • Opportunities are qualified for effective use of Account Manager/Director’s and Catalent’s time and resources
  • Opportunities are qualified against Catalent’s requirements for revenue, profit, and capacity management
  • Qualified opportunities are converted into sales
  • Support is provided for the timely and accurate preparation of quotes
  • Contracts in assigned territory have a Contract Coordinator or contracting team member for negotiations on cross-capability and large-scale single capability opportunities
