Reporting to our Corporate HSE Department, the Regional HSE Manager will possesses a strong safety background and track record supporting large manufacturing plants. Manager will be located at a recycling and smelting plant located in Wabash, Indiana (near Fort Wayne, IN) and will support 8 other plants.

You will provide management and technical support in the field of Health, Safety, and Environmental to the multiple recycling facilities and act as the HSE expert for the region by managing, coaching and motivating HSE personnel with the region. Specifically, you will ensure compliance with all Federal, State, or local health, safety and environmental regulations. Act as the key facilitator to network the resources within the region, specifically working with the facilities to implement best practices that provide continuous improvement of the HSE performance within the facilities. Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the Regional Facilities’ operations to provide assistance in ensure permitting and reporting requirements are met. Provide guidance to the plants and keep them informed of regulatory changes. Work with and assist the facilities in developing plans to address regulatory changes that may affect their operations and activities. Provide direction and develop corrective action plans for audits, citations, notices of violation, or orders impacting the facilities to assure compliance with any agency or company time lines. Ensure necessary training and career development for HSE staff is identified, and plans developed in conjunction with the site management to ensure we have development plans and assessments of the coordination of staff. In conjunction with the plant management, provide direction and support in conducting regulatory agency negotiations, compliance with corporate directives, negotiate agreements, and evaluate HSE consultants and contractors. Work with the facilities in the preparation of five year strategic plan for operations.


 


Success Factors Required:


 


·         BS in Engineering, Industrial Safety or another technically related degree.


·         5 to 10 years + experience in industrial safety, health and environmental specifically


             in the areas of water, waste and air regulation.


·         Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT and other key HSE related regulations.


·         Strong communication & interpersonal skills with the ability to negotiate.


·         Ability to facilitate programs and present to groups.


·         Solid change management skills with the ability to implement new programs.


·         Knowledge of continuous process improvement, Lean Six Sigma and Kaizen are a plus.


·         3 years of supervisory experience is a plus.


·         Prior experience working in a Metals Manufacturing company is a plus.


·         Experience managing 3 or more plants is a plus.


·         Occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and climb or balance. 


·         May have to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.


·         Ability to travel 30% within the assigned Midwest region.
