Regional Sales Manager, Northern California

The successful applicant will be a competitive, proven sales manager who will manage two local sales teams in selling news distribution and internet services to public companies (esp. Fortune 1000) and PR and IR firms throughout Northern California. This position is 75% direct selling and will be responsible for meeting/exceeding the regions’ sales revenue goals, day-to-day functions of all local reporting sales staff and customer service team, sales planning and strategy, and networking with industry associations (PRSA, NIRI, etc.). The Sales Manager reports to the Senior VP, Global Sales.

The ideal candidates will possess a strong background in direct outside sales (7+ yrs) essential, with management experience (3+yrs). PR/IR or Info services experience preferred. Formal sales training strongly preferred.


 


Responsibilities Include:


 



  • Meet and exceed revenue sales targets, product sales quotas and appointment goals as set by company and regional manager (75% direct selling)
  • Land, maintain and up-sell top-tier, high-volume accounts
  • Possess and maintain thorough knowledge of the industry, our products and services, as well as those of our competitors
  • Travel to different areas of the state or region when necessary
  • Maintain consistent new business development in assigned sales territory
  • Manage the efforts of other sales staff to ensure consistent new business development in each sales territory
  • Oversee office staff involvement with professional organizations (NIRI, PRSA, Publicity Club, etc.) to ensure a high level of visibility for the Business Wire brand
  • Devise and execute effective sales strategies to ensure continuous revenue growth
  • Act as principal liaison between sales staff and senior management
  • Work with the regional manager to hire, train, review and evaluate sales staff

 


Required Skills:


 



  • 7 or more years outside sales experience (w/ 3+ as sales manager)
  • Proven track record in sales, including exceeding quota requirements and growing a sales territory
  • Superior sales management skills
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Dynamic presentation skills
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills
  • Must have a reliable automobile, a valid drivers license, and automobile insurance coverage as required by Business Wire, and be able to travel
  • Technical skills and computer literacy; proficiency in standard business applications (i.e., MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, ACT, Web, etc.)

 


Bachelors degree preferred and experience in related field such as investor relations, public relations, new media or journalism desirable.
