Hospice of Southern Maine, formed in 2003, is a nonprofit fully integrated, community based hospice provider located in Scarborough, Maine, with the single purpose of providing and improving end-of-life care. Hospice of Southern Maine delivers their care through their home program and the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House as well as in nursing homes and hospitals.
Care includes physician and nursing care to maximize comfort and minimize pain, medication management for pain and symptom control, medical equipment and supplies, home health aides to assist with personal care needs between nursing visits, volunteer non medical aid and support to give comfort and assistance, education, social work, counseling, and bereavement services, pastoral care, and other specific treatments and therapies as needed.
Hospice of Southern Maine seeks a highly qualified individual to successfully lead and manage the organization to the fullest realization of its mission through developing and motivating a high performing staff, fiscal management of the organization’s operations, successful fundraising, census building, and robust community and provider relations. This individual will ensure the mission, vision, and values of the organization in all strategies, initiatives, and decisions, develop a long range strategic plan that addresses the needs of the community’s end of life care, oversee the implementation of the strategic plan, and develop, lead, and motivate a high performing Hospice team. Ensuring a robust organizational culture through effective role modeling, positive management and motivation of all staff, and development of a positive and productive work environment is critical to the success of this position.
The CEO will lead the development and implementation of the organization’s business plan and all strategies and tactics for achieving organizational goals and objectives and will oversee the administration of all HSM programs and services in accordance with all federal, state, and local accreditation requirements.
The successful candidate will serve as the face of HSM, cultivating, developing, and fostering strong relationships throughout the community served and at a state and national level and play an integral role in the fund raising activities of the organization. The CEO will act as a proactive advocate on behalf of HSM with state legislature. The CEO must engage in a productive working relationship with the Board, leveraging their skill and expertise, providing them with the organization’s strategic picture, and keeping them informed of accomplishments and challenges, and at all times, the CEO will uphold the Code of Conduct outlined in the agency’s Corporate Compliance requirements.
Qualified applicants will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Care, Business, or a related field (Master’s or related experience a plus) and a minimum of 5 years leadership and administrative experience in health care delivery, hospice, or home health care.
The ideal candidate has the proven ability to establish a strategic vision and achieve it successfully, a track record of developing and managing a high performing staff, a productive history developing and managing financial and operational goals and objectives, and success developing and implementing program infrastructure and standards. Strong candidates will have outstanding interpersonal skills, comfort dealing with conflict and staff challenges, self confidence and drive with an ability to establish direction and work with minimal guidance and support, ease making presentations and communicating with various audiences, and will be flexible and able to manage multiple and competing priorities.
