Research Associate - Flow Assurance - Oilfield Chemicals - Sugar Land, TX

Nalco has an opening for a Research Associate - Flow Assurance - Oilfield Chemicals in our Energy Services OFC Research Group located in Sugar Land, TX.  The Research Associate will work with the Research and Development Manager to lead and develop new technologies in the area of Flow Assurance research.  Nalco Research Associates develop original research programs to solve complex research problems where precedents have not been set.  They will use technical expertise in planning critical projects including establishing technical objectives, selecting research approaches, and directing and participating in the research as needed.  They are responsible for building value for customers through the development and deployment of innovative products and services, interacting directly with external customers to understand their processes while determining their immediate and long-term needs, providing direct customer support on an ongoing basis to solve customer problems and support the sales process.  They will work independently with guidance from general management, providing research leadership to a research activity or, as needed, directly managing a major research project.  While they will be recommending the selection of a project staff, they also provide training and technical direction to less experienced researchers.  This position will develop leading technologies in the area of Flow Assurance research, specifically scale, hydrates, wax and asphaltenes.


The minimum qualifications the candidate will have include:  
  • Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Materials Science or Chemical Engineering and Eight (8)+ years industrial experience in related areas of interest to Nalco's current marketplace. A M.S. with Eleven (11)+ years relevant industrial experience or a B.S. with Fourteen (14)+ years relevant industrial experience will also be considered

  • A demonstration of strong mastery of highly specialized skills, a high level of scientific knowledge, and a highly creative approach to research is required

  • Candidate must have made innovative technical contributions in one or more areas of importance to Nalco

  • This position requires past experience in the area of oilfield chemicals, specifically flow assurance is preferred  

  • 20% International and Domestic travel is required
