Research Scientist I, Bioprocess Development

About the Job

IDEXX Laboratories, Inc. is seeking a Research Scientist to develop cell based reagents for our Companion Animal, Production Animal, and Dairy product lines. Primary responsibilities include: Design and perform experiments in support of bioreactor processes for the production of monoclonal antibody (mAb), viral antigens, eukaryotic cell lines, and fermentation development; identify cell based process improvement opportunities for existing products and development of experimental approaches to demonstrate feasibility and ROI of recommended improvements, followed by appropriate development, validation, and implementation of the improvements; provide oversight of, as well as training and guidance to, junior staff to accomplish these activities.

Requirements:

Required education/experience: Ph.D. in biology, biochemistry, bioprocessing, or bioengineering, plus a minimum of 3 years relevant experience in the development, optimization, and validation of bioreactor processes for production of mAbs, eukaryotic cell lines, and recombinant proteins. Experience with immunodiagnostics, and in the development and creation of cell based reagents (including culture of eukaryotic cell lines and animal viruses), is highly preferred. Preference will be given to candidates who have some experience in an industrial setting.


Required skills and abilities: Qualified candidates will possess scientific creativity, technical proficiency and strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting scientific data. An understanding of ISO and cGMP compliance requirements is a plus. Candidates must also demonstrate the ability to:



  • Design, execute and troubleshoot experiments independently
  • Critically evaluate data and make decisions on future experimentation
  • Effectively transfer reagents and processes to production groups
  • Work and communicate effectively with peer scientists
  • Supervise and train laboratory personnel.
