Optical Research Scientist/Engineer

Lambda Instruments is seeking research scientists and engineers to work on the development of current and next-generation optical fiber sensor systems in our new Blacksburg, VA facility. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with a B.S./M.S. in a physical science or engineering discipline and 2-5 years of industry experience.  Preference will be given to individuals with at least two years of optics-related experience. Labview programming experience desirable but not required.  Applicants must have ability to prioritize, multitask, and adhere to deadlines and have well-documented critical-thinking and problem-solving abilities.  Multiple positions are available with extremely competitive salary and benefit packages. 

Goals, Objectives, and Main Responsibilities • Project management: design, coordinate, and conduct experimental tests to support fiber optic sensor R&D programs • Maintain records of laboratory activities and notebooks in a professional, accurate manner. • Generate oral and written reports as necessary to summarize laboratory activities and projects for government and industry sponsors • Work with minimal supervision, but also collaborate as needed on a team on various projects • Perform literature reviews and searches to support ongoing proposal preparation • Some travel for meetings with sponsors and for off-site sensor testing will be required.
