Research Technician I

Job Summary:

An exciting opportunity is open for a Research Technician to join an HHMI laboratory at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The Research Technician will conduct research on structural and biochemical characterization of multiprotein machines that regulate cell division and have roles in cancer.

The laboratorys goal is to understand the assembly and regulation of enzymes that control cell proliferation by a series of dynamic molecular handoffs for the protein ubiquitin. The position is ideally suited for a recent college graduate wishing to gain valuable experience in a vibrant research environment

Principal Responsibilities:

  • After initial training by a senior lab member, the Research Technician will manage a sub-project involving protein purification, multiprotein complex assembly and characterization, protein crystallization, cell culture, and possibly molecular biology
  • Collect, record, organize and verify the accuracy of data
  • Assist postdoctoral fellows with experiments in biochemistry, structural biology, and enzymology
  • Contribute to lab organization and maintenance
  • May demonstrate and explain various laboratory techniques to laboratory personnel
  • Participate in laboratory meetings and read relevant literature


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, biology, chemistry and/or related field
  • Good analytical, communication, record-keeping and organizational skills
  • Lab experience and a background in biochemistry or molecular biology is highly desirable
  • Able to learn complex tasks with general instruction
  • Self-motivated
  • Must be able to work independently, and also as a team player, interacting effectively within a large group
