Job Title: Residential Support Specialist
Department: Children’s and Adult Behavioral Residential Services
Reports to: Program Manager, Program Specialist and Overnight Supervisor
Supervises: ABA Counselors and Residential Aides
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Approved by: Jessica Woods, Executive Director of Children’s Services
General Responsibilities
The Residential Support Specialist (RSS) is an administrative and clinical supervisor for the residential program and is responsible to assist the Program Manager in the clinical and administrative operations of the home. He/she will assist the Program Manager with the training and implementation of the clinical behavioral interventions and teaching strategies for individuals in the residential setting. The Residential Support Specialist will assist the Program Manager to ensure that all requirements are met for acquiring and maintaining all applicable licenses, certifications and accreditations. The RSS will assist with the supervision of assigned residential home.
Populations served are intensely physically challenging. The RSS position requires that staff be aware that individuals who are served may exhibit aggressive and/or self-injurious behavior. This requires the RSS to be constantly alert and ready to respond to the individual’s needs according to effective behavior analytic interventions.
Education/Training: Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred; Minimum requirement of 50 College Credits.
Certifications/Licensure: A valid US driver’s license and a minimum age of twenty-one (21) years old. Must be capable of attaining approved Melmark driver status. Successful completion of employer provided certification in CPR, First Aid and Crisis Intervention.
Skill(s): Working knowledge of Windows Operating Systems and Microsoft Office. Possess strong teaching skills with emphasis on individuals who are emotionally, behaviorally, physically and/or developmentally challenged. Ability to implement function based interventions for the reduction of challenging behaviors. Experience in the principles and application of Applied Behavior Analysis. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills are assets.
Experience: Prefer at least one (1) year experience with specialized populations.
