SAP Controlling & Product Costing Specialist

General Description

 

This role is a key contributor and senior member of the configuration team that holds the expertise in the SAP application that serves the specific business lines and functions.  They thoroughly understand the business processes, SAP configuration and functionality and the associated data.  This role works closely with the architecture function to ensure cohesive and comprehensive development of solutions.  Will function having a high level of technical knowledge of a functional area and will mentor and train less experienced team members.  Key duties include the ability to answer complex questions, provide thought/technical leadership, and assist in grooming the expertise of their high performing team mates.

 

Uses agreed to standard tools and development methodologies.  Member of the team that performs all functions related to developing and maintaining business functionality through configuration and integration of SAP and SAP bolt-on tools.  This team also performs and supports testing to ensure quality. 

 

Essential Functions

  1.  Gathers detailed requirements from business users for level 3 support work, approved projects and small enhancements to existing SAP configuration or development objects.
  2.  Performs design and writes specifications as needed for workflow, forms, reports, interfaces, conversions, and enhancements (WRICEF). 
  3.  Performs unit tests and other tests as needed and works with end users on User Acceptance testing (UAT). 
  4.  Works with Business Stakeholders, IT Infrastructure teams, and Development teams to ensure that business requirements are properly configured within SAP and that all development objects perform as designed.
  5.  Actively coaches team members on the software development lifecycle methodology
  6.  Follows processes that ensures cohesive and detailed program specifications, creates quality configuration and objects matching specifications, performs unit testing, creates appropriate documentation and provides the appropriate level of support after implementation when called required
  7.  Partners with the business and other IT teams to provide innovative ideas to solve business or technological challenges
  8.  Emphasizes and supports the need for continuous improvement through the use of proven methods such as Root Cause Analysis
  9.  Works with senior team members and the team lead to perform quality reviews at the requirements, design and development phases and to pass stage gates
  10. Provides 3rd level support to the end user community within the appropriate SAP application portfolio
  11. Develops self with a broad knowledge of the application capabilities while also developing multiple areas of expertise
  12. Actively supports the deployment phases through knowledge transfer, global template configuration extension, new design configuration and appropriate documentation
  13. Actively partners with the support and help desk team through knowledge transfer and “brain building” for speedy and consistent solutions for business users
  14.  Provides consistent progress/status reports to senior team members and lead

 

Knowledge Requirements

§         A deep understanding of SAP development and configuration practices

§         Detailed knowledge of the Controlling module and Product Costing, including in-depth knowledge of discrete and repetitive manufacturing processes (e.g. make to stock and make to order), variant configuration, material ledger, transfer pricing and results analysis.  

§         Level 5 (Expert) SAP skills

o       Completed 4-6 weeks SAP training / education

o       Hands-on SAP experience including configuration experience in 2+ SAP implementation projects achieving production status

o       8+ years experience with SAP

o       SAP certification or equivalent

o       Broad understanding of and experience with project management routines and disciplines

o       Broad understanding of  at least two SAP areas and depth in many sub-areas

o       Intimately familiar with all integration touch points in areas of expertise

o       Capable of being lead configurator across broad, complex and tightly integrated business processes

 

Education Level Required

§         Bachelor’s degree / Master’s Degree in information sciences or related field

 

Experience Requirements to be Competent in the Role

§         8+ years experience in an SAP environment with a broad understanding of the application and important aspects of successfully developing and implementing SAP centric solutions

§         8+ years experience in a team of diverse skill-sets in a project type environment

§         5+ years experience with a global, multi-billion dollar company

 

Skills/Behavior Requirements

 

§         SAP Navigation and Configuration of Master Data within the IMG and developers workbench

§         Knowledge of Business Processes in specific functional area (guru level)

§         Thorough understanding of project life-cycle tools such as Solution Manager, Quality Center and ChaRM

§         Communicate, coordinate, and collaborate with the other Enterprise Application developers and peers

§         Commitment to provide process, business analysis and SAP configuration at the highest level

§         Capability to support a global template with standardized processes and continue to actively support the ongoing implementation and enhancement of SAP

§         Stay current on the latest SAP technology trends within the SAP development environments

§         Follow and support current documentation standards and change control methodologies

§         Ability to adapt and rapidly apply changing technology to business needs

§         Ability to handle multiple assignments

§         Possess strong problem solving and decision making skills

§         Show the ability to quickly learn in a dynamic environment

§         Be an excellent communicator, verbal and written, as well as demonstrating effective listening
