The Suffolk plant utilizes production supervisors to manage the operation of its regular tea production floor and regular tea blending process. Supervisors are the principal leadership team members directly responsible for hourly production and maintenance personnel. The supervisor facilitates the daily operation of the production floor and blending process, provides operator development, implements company initiatives, generates operational reports, and insures the general safety and quality of product and personnel.

Safety - The supervisor will communicate and enforce all safety rules of the Suffolk site. The individual will provide counseling and support for all employees on any safety issues and improvement activities and issue corrective action and discipline where warranted.

Quality - The supervisor will review quality standards with employees and provide counseling, assessment and training where necessary. The supervisor will provide Quality Services with communication of any suspect or hold items. Additionally, the supervisor will provide purchasing with completed Defective Material Reports (DMR) and insure the continuity of the storage and isolation of these materials.

Materials (QAD and tracking shortages, Inventory Control) - The supervisor will provide a point of contact for warehouse personnel to facilitate the storage and staging of materials (including raw materials and packaging). Duties will include the validation of inventories, coordinating the location of missing components

Efficiencies/outputs/product priorities – The supervisor will be responsible for reporting of production quantities. This task includes all pertinent data relating to the operation of the production floor. Although these duties may be assigned, as needed, ultimately the supervisor is responsible for the timely and accurate reporting of data. Daily the supervisor will review the production schedule, review the shift change log and confer with scheduling to determine any priority changes in production and to assess any potential obstacles to the successful completion of the schedule.

Sanitation – The supervisor will be responsible for the effective and successful implementation of the site housekeeping and GMP plan. This includes work area and machine sanitation.

Team Coordinator (TC) development/follow-up – Supervisors will work closely with TC’s and provide clear direction for them to carry out the duties of their job. Supervisors will provide feedback to the TC’s in order to improve the efficient operation of the shift including the assignment of labor, completion of data collection activities and the management of daily operations.

Trials – Supervisors will assist the management leadership in the execution of plant trials. These trials will vary in complexity and duration. Supervisors may be asked to provide reporting on trial performance and must be able to evaluate the effect on production of the numerous conditions, materials and properties of any given trial.

Operator follow-up (policy/OT, etc) – Supervisors are the first point of management contact for hourly employees. Supervisors will administer discipline, coordinate employees’ schedules and provide clarification of company policy. In the event that contact with the supervisor’s direct report is requested or required, the supervisor will always contact their manager on the matter. This is not to impede an employee’s access to site management, but rather to support the table of authority at the site. Strict compliance to established policies and procedures must be adhered to.

Operator development – The supervisor should provide consistent and regular feedback to their employees pertaining to job performance, attendance and compliance with company policies and rules. Supervisors must be objective and provide guidance for aiding the employee in improving areas which are below standards. Supervisors will have an active role in employee relations programs on their shifts and drive positive employee relations through various reward and recognition programs.

Technical assessments – The supervisor will assist in the site method for evaluating personnel for the position of, Attendant, Line Mechanic, Block Mechanic, Blending positions and Technical Operator. This may include administering of tests, writing evaluations and providing recommendations for the position.

Changeovers – Supervisors will coordinate and lead the changeover process on the production floor. The supervisor must confer with all parties and confirm changeover questions with scheduling. Unplanned adjustments to the production schedule or delays in changeovers must be communicated to the site scheduler and regular tea manager.

TPM – Supervisors are the owners of TPM on their shifts. A supervisor will insure that all aspects of the program are being implemented and support their employees by attending all meetings for their shift, providing necessary resources (time, additional personnel, materials) and serving as a knowledge base about the program itself. The supervisor, with assistance from management, must provide feedback on the effects of the program to employees on a regular basis. Supervisors are expected to facilitate Autonomous Maintenance activities on their shifts and act as a knowledge resource base for their employees. Supervisors will lead or participate in several ongoing continuous improvement teams.

Project Management – The Supervisors are required to take on various small projects which drive the continuous improvement activities of the site.
