Globally renowned Critical Care Pharmaceutical Company has an exciting new opportunity for a Senior Process Engineer to join their team in Bethlehem, PA. Job Summary:

  • Studies and recommends process improvements to increase yield, increase productivity, improve quality and reduce waste.
  • Develops new processes, technologies and techniques to achieve plant production goals
  • Directly supports the Bethlehem Manufacturing team to ensure that the production processes and unit operations are run at optimum conditions
  • Serves as an advisor and resource to PCC management with regards to technical issues in manufacturing

General Responsibilities:

Process Optimization
: Constantly seeks to see that each production process and unit operation is run at optimum process operating conditions to reduce costs by improving yield and increasing productivity.

  • Through data collection, communication with plant personnel and physical observation, analyze and recommend optimum process operating conditions for specific unit operations to reduce costs, improve yield, and increase productivity.
  • Develop and utilize process simulation tools and data to aid in process optimization
  • Optimize production by analyzing processes and compiling de-bottleneck studies;
  • Generate overall material and energy balances for the process and each unit operation to aid in understanding how changes will impact the process and in determining the impact on building utility systems
  • Recommend appropriate changes to equipment design and configuration to achieve optimization goals
  • Recommend and execute improvements to reactor and distillation column operating conditions

Process Advisor
:  Serves as a technical advisor to Manufacturing and PCC Management

  • Provides guidance and recommendations to Manufacturing department to minimize costs and meet quality standards.
  • Work closely with the Production Supervisors and the PDG group Chemist(s) to ensure the process is set up to provide maximum output levels and efficient running of the facility.
  • As requested, researches, investigates and provides consultation to PCC management with regards to technical manufacturing issues

New Technology
:  Develop and apply new technologies to the existing process

  • Survey and research new technologies to improve costs and product quality.
  • Assist the Manufacturing and Project Engineering groups in new technology transfer and implementation
  • Conduct pilot studies on new technology for scale-up

Plant Modifications & Expansion
: Assist in design of plant expansions or reconfigurations

  • Assess options for plant expansion or reconfiguration
  • Develop and test process simulation models
  • Conduct lab and pilot trials to aid in the design of new equipment and processes
  • Performing accurate chemical engineering design calculations
  • Conduct pilot studies on new equipment and processes for scale-up to aid the design team in accurate sizing and design of new equipment and facilities.
  • Provide basic technical chemical engineering design assistance on equipment as needed

Other Duties

  • Assist in the development of capital forecasts
  • Conduct other tasks as required.


  • BS in Chemical Engineering required;
  • Minimum 7-10 years of experience working in a chemical, pharmaceutical or biotech manufacturing facility.
  • Proficient in simulation software.
  • Distillation and reactor experience strongly desired.
  • Able to work independently with little supervision.
  • Ability to focus on practical application and utilization of development work
  • Broad and deep knowledge of many unit operations
  • Thorough understanding of principles and practices of chemical & pharmaceutical manufacturing and unit operations
