The Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care Section provides high quality medical care to critical and emergent patients. In addition, this section creates a positive learning experience for TUSVM students and house staff with regard to Small Animal ECC medicine, and supports the training of specialized ECC technicians. We are currently seeking a Senior Veterinary Technician. This position is a supervisory partnership requiring frequent, clear communication with the SA Critical Care SVT, the Veterinary Technician Manager and the ECC Section Head.
The Senior Veterinary Technician will:
- Assist the Hospital Administration and ECC Section Head in directing the daily function and smooth operation of the Small Animal Hospital ECC section;
- Ensure that high quality technical assistance will be provided to emergency service patients, clients, clinicians, residents, interns, and students;
- Care for critical and emergent patients;
- Teach and assist veterinary students in correct technical procedures;
- Ensure that support staff stay abreast of new techniques and are capable of training veterinary students;
- Promote quality service to clients and referring veterinarians;
- Coordinate and schedule technical staff to meet the needs of the service;
- Cooperate with the SA Critical Care SVT to recommend changes and make proposals for cost-saving improvements,
- Promote, facilitate, and develop a team spirit and productive workforce among the ECC technicians.
Basic requirements: High School Diploma or the equivalent with minimum 5 years of related experience. CVT, VTS required. Familiarity with Microsoft Office. Ability to learn Hospital Accounting System (HAS) and the Hospitals electronic medical records system (FIRST). Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Preferred qualifications: Preferred qualifications include Veterinary Technician Specialty (ECC). Associates or Bachelors Degree from a certified veterinary technology program with a strong knowledge base of ECC veterinary medicine. Previous experience in a veterinary teaching hospital or specialty practice desirable. Highly skilled in performance of advanced nursing techniques. Three or more years of supervisory experience and human resource management skills, including excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Special Work Schedule: Primary schedule will be second shift but may, at times, include other shifts to cover for staff shortages and ensure adequate patient coverage. Some weekend and holiday commitment required.
