The Server Team works closely with the TSO Support Teams, Technology Planning, Systems Development, and Network Services as well as various working groups in the organization to continue the evolution of the Partners server platform. The team is responsible for developing & executing test plans, installation & support documentation, planning & managing initial deployments, training, 3rd level support, and vendor management for server based products.
The Server Team researches and evaluates vendor proposals for the standardization of hardware and software solutions. The team plans, designs and recommends platform modifications or additions to increase system stability, capacity, and scalability. They provide implementation planning, management, and support during production rollout. They establish performance standards, policies and procedures. They coordinate training for operations and TSO staff. They oversee technical growth of team members and provide feedback to the team lead and corporate manager.
Each Engineer confers with peers on technical problems, procedures and troubleshooting methods. Consults with and advises users and other support groups of server issues. Engineer projects long-range requirements for server administration and expansion. Plans and recommends machine modifications or additional equipment to increase system capacities. Analyzes the results of server monitoring and recommends changes to improve performance, processing and utilization. Periodically may perform some project management and coordination of efforts with server development team and vendors.
The Server Engineer should have a high level of knowledge and experience with the Operating systems, NTFS Permissions, Performance Analysis, Active Directory configuration and support, Windows Scripting experience such as Command Line, WMI, PERL, and Visual Basic. They should also have experience in supporting and configuring HP ProLiant Server hardware, HP SAN Disk and EMC SAN Disk.
- Participate in departmental and enterprise-wide projects with an emphasis on new technology integration within the Partners environment
- Complex problem analysis and recovery
- Technical consultation on complex projects
- Communication with vendors to understand upcoming products
- Conform to and support systems management disciplines such as the Corporate Change, Asset, and Problem Management procedures.
- Performance monitoring, technical support and advanced trouble-shooting of servers
- Data integrity, backups, restores and disaster recovery.
- Script installation of Server Operating systems and Core products
- Provide proactive Proliant support including firmware/BIOS updates, researching the latest customer advisories, implementing recommendations; ensuring the desirable server performance.
- Research and maintain HP Proliant Support Packs and script installations for core builds.
- Update Windows OS images (W2K, W2K3, W2K3 x64) while maintaining and creating standards for the Windows core environment.
- Document all aspects of job including procedural, testing, platform handbooks and hardware manuals.
- Certification of new Proliant and Blade servers to ensure compliance with BOS core standards.
- Integrate with the Production Server team to help resolve issues and educate team members.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
- 2 - 5 years I/T experience with 2 years in HealthCare environment
- 2 - 5 years server administration experience in a large networked environment
- 2 - 5 years of administration experience in Microsoft Operating Systems
- MCSE 2003/2008 or ability to gain in less than 6 months and equivalent experience
- Knowledge of VMWARE platform.
- Expert Knowledge of Windows Server Operating Systems.
- Must have excellent distributed systems platform knowledge
- Must have working knowledge of Networks
- Possess `team player skills

Working Conditions
- Cubicle with some extended time in a large computer room environment.
- Regular participation in on-call which includes carrying and responding to an electronic pager 7/24 during the call period. This may also require dialing in or traveling onsite to resolve problems.
- Limited physical activities that requires, moving, lifting and carrying light to medium weight objects.
- Occasion need to bend or kneel and handle low voltage cables.
- Travel to multiple sites throughout metropolitan Boston is occasionally required.
- Remote home access equipment and communication will be provided and is required.
- Occasional travel to professional seminars and conferences
