This position supports Syncsort’s Backup Express product. Backup Express is a high-performance enterprise data protection solution for UNIX, Windows, Linux, and NetWare environments. It is the only solution that integrates heterogeneous snapshot, image, and rapid recovery options; supports any combination of UNIX, Windows, NetWare, Linux, and NDMP/NAS in a SAN; performs backup of all data directly across a Fibre Channel or iSCSI network; dynamically shares all drives; supports all NDMP incrementals; and controls this entire enterprise environment with a single catalog and browser-based GUI.

The Professional Services Engineer is responsible for providing pre-sales and post-sales support to Backup Express prospects and customers. The work is generally performed at customer sites throughout North America and extensive travel is required. The candidate should have experience in a customer facing role and must be a self-starter with strong problem solving skills.

The ideal candidate will be located near our Northern New Jersey office; however, we will consider relocation for the right candidate.

Responsibilities  include:

• Product installation and upgrade support
• Product training and discussions about best practices for data protection and disaster recovery
• Performance audits and other consulting services
• Pre-Sales support, including product demonstrations

 Requirements:

BS Comp Science or related field (3.4 GPA or higher); Advanced degree desirable; Willingness to perform extensive travel (70-80%); 2+ years work experience. 

The ideal candidate will have experience within most of the following technical areas:

• Enterprise class data protection, backup, or other storage management software
• Hands-on system administration experience with Windows, Unix/Linux, Novell Netware and/or Novell Open Enterprise Server
• Storage Area Networks (SAN), Network Attached Storage (NAS), SCSI interfaces, storage devices (disk, tape, filers, libraries, RAID)
• Application support for Exchange, GroupWise, SQL Server, Oracle, Share Point, SAP and/or Lotus
