This is a per-diem position and hours are based on employer's needs.
Provides evaluation and treatment to patients with communication, cognitive, and swallowing disorders.
JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Evaluates and treats referred patients with communication, cognitive and swallowing disorders.
Administers auditory screening using air conduction and refers patients to ENT
Physicians and Audiologists as needed (including Employee Hearing Screening).
Maintains timely, accurate and complete patient records including evaluations,discharge summary, progress notes, and record of charges.
Counsels caregivers (nursing, family) on patient's communication, cognition and swallowing status, treatment, goals and objectives.
Consults physicians concerning patient care as needed.
Attends all required JCAHO inservices on an annual basis.
Is responsible for scheduling patients for treatment.
Responds appropriately and calmly in an emergency.
Practices within the bounds of the Speech Pathology Practice Act for the State of Missouri.
Monitors patient load in assigned area and requests assistance from peers as needed or offers assistance to peers as available in inpatient and outpatient areas.
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists with new program development and goal setting.
Keeps up to date on innovations in the field.
Maintains awareness of cost factors.
Attends required meetings and inservices.
Increases knowledge base by attending seminars and continuing education classes as approved.
Participates in policy and procedure development and revision.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION/TRAINING
Graduate Degree: Masters level (MA, MS, MBS or MSN)
