Description

Currently Protective Life is looking for a SQL Database Administrator in it's Birmingham, AL corporate headquarters. The SQL DBA will provide database administration functions for Protective Life’s Microsoft SQL Server environment.  This person will be involved in the maintenance, day to day operations and project work for the Protective Life SQL Server database systems.  The position requires the ability to provide 24/7 on call support on a rotation basis.

Responsibilities:

• Work with application development teams to perform database requests for Microsoft SQL Server based applications.  This includes the creation, maintenance and migration of database objects.
• Perform troubleshooting and resolving database related issues, working with senior Database administrators, developers and systems engineers as needed.
• Perform regular proactive monitoring of database environment.
• Perform routine maintenance tasks.
• Work on projects as assigned.
• Knowledge transfer and mentoring of junior database administrators.

Requirements:

• Requires 5 years IT experience with two years as a Microsoft SQL Server DBA.
• Experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and 2005 is required.  Experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2008 is a plus.
• Experience working in a large database environment
• Database Administrator certification is a plus.
• Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server BI Tools.  (SSIS, SSRS & SSAS)
• Knowledge of SCOM (Systems Center Operations Manager) SQL Management packs a plus
• Experience working in a high availability Microsoft SQL Server environment is a plus.
• Excellent customer service skills as well as effective verbal and written communications skills in both business and technical environments.
• Experience working with third party database administration tools.  (Backup, job scheduling, etc.)
