  SQL Database Administrator

Job Description:

Our client has an immediate need for a SQL Database Administrator in the Des Moines area. Basic Purpose: Monitors and corrects issues with production database environments on a 24x7 basis to ensure maximum uptime at parent company and all associated business units.

Essential Functions:


  • Maintain and support database systems including system upgrades, new software releases, patch management, backups and replication, system administration, security management, vendor relations and issue resolution in accordance with industry and company standards

  • Provide technical insight and support in the evaluation, selection, and implementation of production systems hardware and software.

  • Provide support to company application units including planning, design, development, budgeting, performance tuning, and issue resolution.

  • Prepare activity and status reports for active projects and systems as required.

  • Assist system administration staff with other activities as needed.

  • Maintains system documentation

  • Provide on-call support as needed



Additional Responsibilities:

  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned. May include some heavy lifting and limited travel



Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS in Computer Science/Computer Engineering, a related field, or equivalent work experience.

  • 5 years hands on experience managing Microsoft SQL database systems in enterprise level three tiered application environment.

  • Experience with Oracle a strong plus



Demonstrable expertise with many of the following technologies:
Databases: SQL, Oracle, MySQL
Tools: RedGate, Oracle Warehouse Builder, IIS, Spotlight on SQL
Languages: .Net, Java, ColdFusion

Additional skill sets: SQL clustering, SQL replication, ETL, experience working with internal finance departments (Microsoft Financials and Great Plains), experience working with BI tools.

Excellent oral and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational skills
