This position will report to the Technical Team Leader of the I2B2 and work directly with I2B2 technical and business staff as well as other research and Partners teams. This individual will provide software development and maintenance functions to enhance and support data integration, applications, services and business operations in the I2B2 domain specifically focused in the area of medical image data. Patient data query tools, query management, data visualization, and query workflow will be implemented by this programmer. Emphasis will be upon ease of use and workflow of the research clients. Query design will require that the programmer understand the metadata and data structure of large databases. Visualization will be oriented around both categorical data and imaging data.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop/create visual displays of images and data related to healthcare.
- Maintain, repair and enhance I2B2 programs, applications and services
- Create technical specifications and documentation
- Investigate and resolve production issues in I2B2 products
- Execute development and unit tests of software code
- Management of daily tasks and ability to multi-task, with communication to team leadership
- Produce tasks in the estimated time-frame with the appropriate quality
- Management and documentation of production work and version control through team tracking utilities (CVS, Sharepoint)
- Escalate issues that pose a risk to the achievement of planned milestones
- Understand the business operations that the software solutions support in context of the greater Partners research enterprise
- Contribute to the overall goals and strategy of the group through proactive involvement in day to day operations
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree Required
- 5 + years programming experience; 2 year expertise programming in UI Design
- Experience with Object-Oriented design and development required
- Working knowledge of HTML/Javascript/AJAX, Java, XML, and Eclipse required
- experience programming for healthcare or research applications desired
Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required
- Skill in developing HTML/Javascript/AJAX applications
- Skill in developing Java Visualization-oriented applications
- Familiarity with three-tiered architectures and middle layer programming
- Experience with Eclipse IDE for Java
- Knowledge of proper user interface guidelines
- Able to create graphics with Adobe Photoshop or equivalent graphics package
- 2 years of programming experience specific to user interface development
- Experience with Linux and Microsoft operating systems
- Ability to architect and write production-level code.
- Ability to deliver quality components in a timely manner
- Team oriented; operate in a team environment, collaboration with fellow team members and external upstream system contacts persons is critical
- Clear communication skills, including ability to participate in team design & development discussions
- Understanding of business knowledge and technical goals
- Excellent technical analysis and problem solving skills
- Experience with application development processes, development lifecycle and service oriented architecture.
