General Purpose of the Position:
Extensive hands-on oversight of all safety and risk related activities at all Company locations. Provide a safe and healthy work environment for all employees. Assures compliance with all Federal, State and Local laws directed by the Department of Transportation (DOT), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environment Protection Agency (EPA) and other State and Local authorities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Weekly communication with all Safety Supervisors at all locations to ensure that PPE & all safety related programs are being enforced.
Make certain that Facility Inspections are being performed monthly.
Manage court appearances and vehicle violation payments at all NJ & NY locations.
Monitor new-hire procedures to ensure that all related documents & required DOT & OSHA forms are properly completed.
Oversee and take part in Accident Review Committees at all locations.
2. Prevention & Compliance
Accurate record keeping for all DOT & OSHA related items.
Manage Random Drug Program for all locations.
Provide all Safety & Health related documentation and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to all locations.
3. Auditing & Reporting
Timely and precise reporting to all state & federal DOT, EPA, DOL & OSHA Agencies.
4. Manage
Administers insurance program for all Property Damage & Bodily Injury claims.
Direct Workers Compensation & Return to Work programs at all locations.
Skills Required to Accomplish the Duties and Responsibilities
Ability to:
1) Communicate effectively with: Subordinates, Senior Management & all government agencies.
2) Prepare accurate & timely reports.
3) Develop plans for safety programs & on-going training at all locations.
4) Supervise six Safety Supervisors and three Transportation Compliance Officers at NJ, NY, PA, MASS & VT locations.
Education/ Experience Required:
Minimum: BS with five years Safety Experience or 10 years related Transportation, Insurance & Safety Background.
Working Conditions: Incumbent will have a combination of working conditions including office and “at site” locations. Approximately 30% travel will be required to visit the various facilities in all states, meet with the designated Safety Supervisor at that location, present training programs and conduct inspections. .Site inspections at Transfer Stations, Landfills & Maintenance Facilities are done outdoors where any and all weather conditions prevail including heat, sun, rain, snow, ice, wind and more. Environment requires use of appropriate weather protection equipment as well as Safety Shoes & related Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
