An excellent career opportunity is currently available for a Safety Leader/Manager located at the Resins & Chemical manufacturing facility in Hopewell, VA.
The position will report to the site HSE Manager and will be responsible for leading a safety team comprised of safety engineers/professionals. Additionally the role will be accountable for managing key security, fire protection, safety service contractors and suppliers, as well as working closely with the site Registered Nurse, site Contractor Safety Leader, site PSM Leader, and site labor representatives. The Hopewell VA. facility is one of Honeywell's largest and most complex chemical manufacturing operations. Approximately 800 Honeywell employees and contractors are based at this location.
Position Responsibilities:
- Articulates and communicates a clear vision for site safety excellence. Sets clear expectations for leadership including front-line leaders for safety performance.
- Develops short and long-term strategies to achieve an injury/incident free workplace. Is able to lead staff and site in the brainstorming, planning, and implementation of aspects to improve safety.
- Sets up systems to audit implementation, and modifies plans as needed to continuously improve site safety behaviors and site HSE culture.
- Demonstrates strong commitment to HSE excellence and a passion for occupational safety. Leads by example and engages and inspires employees daily to want to work safely and look out for their co-workers' well-being.
- Improve employee attitudes around safety through teaching, leading and one-on-one contacts.
- Drives site's continued conformance to and maturity in the Honeywell SM safety process, including regular coaching and engagement of front-line supervision, leadership, and hourly personnel. Ensures safety team is key resource for SSP in all areas of the site.
- Ensures safety team's roles as safety contacts to specific plant sub-areas continue to expand through implementation of the Honeywell Operating System (HOS) elements such as standard work, Gembas, coaching, visual workplace, standard operating sheets, autonomous maintenance, etc.
- Sets up systems to regularly collect, track and trend key safety performance indicators. Analyzes leading and lagging data, creates relevant summaries and action plans, and communicate findings and actions to help prevent injury/incident recurrence.
- Provides technical advice and tactical support and works with employees at all organizational levels to affect corrective strategies, with respect to matters impacting occupational safety, health, emergency response and security.
- Accountable for managing injury logs, internal and external incident reporting, driving completion of safety and security incident/near miss investigations, evaluating root causes of injuries, and developing safety improvements to prevent injuries and accidents.
- Ensures site employees receive safety, health and security training as required by regulations, Corporate, or other entities.
- Responsible for site safety program compliance, including OSHA, business and Corporate safety, health, and security requirements, and radiation safety.
- Accountable for site loss prevention/insurance reviews and timeliness and completion of associated action items.
- Reviews future/proposed regulations or Corporate requirements, recommends path forward to site leadership, and implements appropriate program measures to ensure compliance.
- Accountable for site's Industrial Hygiene program, ensuring monitoring and any resulting actions as required are taken. Accountable for new chemical reviews, from safety and health perspective and ensures appropriate controls are established prior to introduction into the workforce.
- Responsible for signing off on safety aspects of capital projects and other changes, via MOC, PSSR, and HS&E reviews, to ensure concept, design, and installation meet site/Corporate HSE and security requirements. Provides safety team support in PHAs.
- Assists in the continuous improvement of the site HSE mgmt system.
- Addresses employee wellness and ergonomic issues.
- Able to serve as Incident Commander on emergency response team. Interfaces routinely with regulatory agencies, fire/emergency response and local law enforcement agencies.
Basic Candidate Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Fire Safety, HSE or a closely related technical discipline is required.
- 10 plus years professional experience in a Health, Safety, Environmental role within a manufacturing environment is required.
- 5 plus years supervisory experience.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) accreditation or the ability to obtain a CSP accreditation within 1 year is required.
- US work authorization.
