We are looking for a Safety Manager for our JFK facility

Your Role

The Safety Manager is responsible for all aspects of system safety that is required to provide passengers with safe, effective and efficient transit service and employees with safe work procedures. The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing and administering the Occupational Safety Management System; will be a technical advisor to management and employees and will liaise with all applicable State, Federal and Local regulatory agencies; represent Airtrain in all safety related meetings; and will also be responsible for emergency procedures and investigations.

Your Challenges
  • Oversees EH&S issues for an 8 mile light rail transit system consisting of 16 miles of guideway, 10 stations, and the Operations Maintenance Storage Facilities, 32 vehicles, 7 traction power substations, 44 mainline automatic track switches, 16 yard track switches, 150 employees, and numerous contractors and vendors. Enforces and oversees limits of approach of construction work activities that are in the vicinity of the transit system and its facilities;
  • Develops and provide safety training in compliance with regulatory requirements and Company policy. Performs job analyses and develops safe work procedures as it pertains to employees' and contractors' job tasks, equipment, tools and special projects;
  • Investigates, analyzes and reports fully, completely and accurately details of accidents/incidents/near misses, identifies root cause(s) and contributing factors. Recommends processes and procedures that eliminates/reduces the possibility of accidents/incidents. Performs safety audits on work activities of employees, contractors and vendors. Prepares reports and presents to internal executives and to the client and their consultants;
  • Documents and maintains company safety record keeping databases and accurately maintains and documents regulatory record keeping;
  • Develops and implements all safety related policies and procedures in compliance with regulatory requirements and company policy, including emergency procedures, hazardous waste management, safety system program plan, accident investigations, etc.
Qualifications

Your Experience and Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety is preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive Occupational, Health and Safety experience in rail transportation.
  • Advanced Skills in Microsoft Office Applications, Lotus Notes.
  • Must have excellent written communication skills and must be highly efficient at managing priorities.
