Safety Representative

Experience the personal challenge of working for a global organization that is a leader in the Utilities and Energy industry.  National Grid is seeking a Safety Representative to work in our Watertown, New York location for our Safety Department.  This position will assist in the establishment and implementation of regulatory compliance and incident prevention activities regarding the safety and health of employees, contractors and the public, as they interact with company operations.  Including: 

 

  • training, coaching and performing safety observation tours;
  • develop and implement work practices/programs to enhance employee safety performance;
  • provide input and/or conduct projects to develop or update safety procedures/rules;
  • provide safety support in the field during storm restoration/other emergencies.

 

Must be able to analyze and follow-up on all serious incidents and develop performance improvements/action plans/”lessons learned” to guide management.  Research standards and practices, coordinate, facilitate and develop specialized regulatory and non-regulatory safety training courses for affected employees.  Assist and support other lines of business in managing safety training metrics, assist and support industrial hygiene exposure assessments that include indoor air quality, hazardous materials exposures and ergonomic assessments.  Function as a first responder to inquiries or complaints from regulatory agencies such as OSHA.

 

Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety Management OR related science or engineering degree preferred.
  • 3 to 5 years of professional safety experience AND/OR 3 to 5 years experience in electric and/or gas operations or related industry.
  • Basic understanding of federal, state and local safety and health laws and regulations.
  • Functional knowledge of industrial hygiene principles.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have knowledge of management principles and statistical analysis.
  • Demonstrated high ethical behavior using excellent judgment and decision making skills.

 

Preferences:

 

  • 3 to 5 years experience in electric and/or gas operations or related industry, preferably in a supervisory or leadership role.
