Reporting to the Store Manager and the Assistant Store Manager of our Thrift Stores, the Sales Associate works to support the daily operations of the store, in order to maximize sales and provide first-rate customer and donor services.

General duties

§         Abide by all policies and procedures in Thrift P&P manual, and HW employee manual

§         Participate in advocacy efforts and direct action to end the twin crises of homelessness and AIDS

§         Preserve positive work-atmosphere by communicating with coworkers, volunteers, supervisors and customers/donors cordially and effectively.

§         Assist with loss prevention by checking all shopping bags, talking to customers, monitoring fitting rooms and being aware of potential theft/tag switching (follow proper procedure during incident)

§         Assist with processing and distributing merchandise throughout store, as directed

§         Maintain cleanliness and organization of sales floor, stock rooms and cash wrap – always

§         Other duties as directed by Manager, Director, President or Senior staff

Sales & Customer Service:

§         Know daily sales goals and upcoming event/promotion

§         Actively promote upcoming events, sales, promotions and HW mission (at all stations, all times)

§         Showcase exemplary customer/donor service, including but not limited to: greeting, saying thank you, explaining policies clearly and politely to the satisfaction of the customer

§         Assist with marketing store in neighborhood, especially during upcoming events

§         Cultivate relationships with repeat customers in order to serve them better

Register:

§         Complete cash/charge transactions, bag goods and communicate upcoming event/promotion.

§         Responsible for any discrepancies on register during shift

§         Conduct furniture sales strictly as outlined in P&P manual

§         Expedite line by moving quickly and asking for back-up when needed

§         When without a line, must keep busy (cleaning, restocking case-line, etc)

Donations:

§         Receive walk-in donations. Efficiently distribute goods to proper locations, taking into account all safety/processing guidelines

§         Offer inventory form and provide any assistance necessary to donor

Sales Associate

Qualifications/Requirements:

§         Prior retail experience

§         High school diploma or equivalent

§         Flexibility in schedule; Weekends and some holidays required

§         Knowledge of merchandise being sold preferred

§         Excellent communication, interpersonal and team-oriented skills

§         Self-starting, self-motivating mindset

§         Strong interest in HW mission
