Position Profile

The Technology Consultant is a highly knowledgeable IT strategist who understands that sound IT solutions are those that meet a company's objectives. The Technology Consultant should be adept at collaborating with senior level company personnel to discover organizational needs and translating those needs into an appropriate IT strategy and vision.

As a skilled communicator, the Technology Consultant should be able to effectively collaborate with our client contacts to better understand their organization's strategic vision and objectives. In addition, the Technology Consultant must possess the necessary skills to design, price and scope IT projects, and be equally adept at demonstrating how their recommendations will help our clients attain their strategic vision. Qualified individuals will work with various technical disciplines and cross-functional groups in a fast-paced environment that requires exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills.

  • The Technology Consultant will be responsible for clients within our client base.

  • The Technology Consultant will be based out of a mindSHIFT office location; however, this position requires some travel to client sites within our supported footprint around the country.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for innovation and leadership in developing and scoping initiatives that support customer's goals and objectives. Applies a consultative and collaborative approach with customer decision makers and IT groups.

  • Ability to indirectly manage resources in cross functional teams.

  • Establish overall strategy and vision and able to communicate this strategy and vision to technology and business managers and to C-level executives for multiple customers.

  • Responsible for gaining an understanding of the customer's business and technology requirements and documenting those requirements in a recommendations document.

  • A subject matter expert in designing solutions utilizing mindSHIFT's full product portfolio.

  • Collaborates across multiple function areas and departments when assistance is needed from other parts of the organization.

  • Manage client communications and expectations.

  • Conduct Strategy Session meetings with every account.

  • Design, price, and scope comprehensive IT projects. Develop and present proposals & Statements of Work.

  • Coordinate, facilitate, and consult with various departments on information systems, communications, and other initiatives.

  • Be passionate about delivering the best customer experience and exceeding customer expectations.

  • Monitor progress toward company milestones, project implementation, and ongoing task completion.

  • Evaluate, track and report initiatives and projects implemented, values delivered to customer and other required program metrics. Meet or exceed key performance metrics.

  • Identify emerging technologies and how those technologies can be leveraged by customers to support future business needs.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


  • This position requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in a related field; 5 years' related experience in business and/or technology; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

  • Strong, proven experience exhibiting business analysis skills, project management skills, executive skills, technical skills, and a deep understanding of industry trends is required.

  • 3 to 5 years' experience designing & scoping comprehensive IT projects, including but not limited to independently pricing IT infrastructure components, application software as well determining the number of labor hours required to complete complex IT project.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Must possess broad knowledge of IT/IS practices including:

  • TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, switches, routers, and firewalls

  • Requirements to implement the following Microsoft technologies and when those technologies are appropriate; Active Directory, Group Policies, Microsoft Exchange, Supported Windows OS (Server & Desktop), Remote Desktop Services, SQL

  • Microsoft Office, in particular, proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Visio

  • PMI Standards

  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Enterprise technologies.

  • Understanding of LAN, VLAN and WAN networks and network design.

  • Understanding of large wireless networks utilizing central WLCs and Meraki.

  • Previous hands-on experience as a System Administrator or System Engineer is preferred, with additional experience architecting or implementing IT solutions as a major benefit.

  • Ability to be flexible with work hours and responsibilities.

  • Strong presentation skills.

  • Possesses excellent oral communication skills; speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations.

  • Possesses ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

  • Possesses ability to interpret variety of instructions furnished in written/oral/diagram/schedule form.

  • Ability to read and comprehend written technical information in the form of technical manuals, parts books and relevant publications.

  • Possesses excellent time management and organizational skills; is dependable, enthusiastic, self-starting and self-motivated.

  • Possesses ability to work in fast paced and changing environment.

  • Possesses excellent telephone skills in leading users to solutions.

  • Understands business implications of decisions; aligns work with strategic goals, is cost conscious.

  • Exhibits sound and accurate judgment; supports and explains reasoning for decisions.
