Company Brief


Our client company is a world class specialty polymer producer who has just created a new position to work with a key client in the twin cities area.  Our client is looking for an individual who can work directly with these key customers to define test methods and drive specification and commercialization of new polymer applications, company wide with this key account. This individual will employ a hands-on, problem solving, technical approach to application development which includes customer trials and company prototypes of various adhesive, sealant and coating applications. 



Job Description


Overall Objective: Utilize this position to continue to aggressively initiate and manage opportunities for sales and earnings growth at 3M across the entire company's technology portfolio.   They are looking to use this position to expand their presence at 3M across all of their primary business divisions (vs. simply the division where they are positioned today).   It is expected this position will involve support for the Emerging Markets business.

 
Global Sales and Market Responsibilities:

* Develop relationships across all 3M Divisions and all key functions within those divisions.

* Serve as the Global Key Account Manager for 3M Worldwide.   This will include the following elements:

* Establish 3M overall account strategy, including how we align with customer priorities, customer buying criteria, value chain trends and dynamics, and pricing strategy to maximize total profitability

* Defining and executing a differentiated service value proposition

* Managing overall action plan for the account, including those specific opportunities to increase polymer sales

* Communicate key messages and issues internally across all functions and business units.   This would include working with Supply on product forecasting, with Logistics on special packaging and/or shipment needs, with R&D on technical support requirements, with Marketing on overall trends and strategy, with multiple commercial business teams on pricing strategy, etc.

Product Management Responsibilities:

* Develop short and long-range product forecasts plus plans to achieve forecasts.  Continue to improve forecast accuracy across all 3M purchasing locations.

* Work closely with manufacturing and research to communicate product and customer needs.

* Communicate product quality improvement needs to manufacturing and technical personnel. Help quantify value to the company in making needed changes.   Champion our efforts to drive LSS product quality as a key differentiator.

* Know and understand the cost and profit picture of the products.  Recommend prices to optimize volume / price relationship to company

Qualification


Successful candidates for this position have:

* Technical degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related area.

* Key Account Management experience with Application Development experience with polymers, adhesives, sealants or coatings.

* Broad understanding of polymer science and adhesive chemistry is preferred.

* Prior experience at 3M (or similar MNC chemical company) is a plus.

* Excellent problem solving skills leading to tactical plans that produce results.

* High results orientation. Self Starter with excellent organizational skills and detailed oriented.

* Comfortable and efficient working independently.

* Live near St. Paul, MN.   Desire is to have someone who can be at the 3M Corporate HQ on a daily basis if necessary if not from the area able and willing to relocate to the twin cities area.
