POSITION LOCATION:This position is based in Southern California (Los Angeles area). We advertise in various locations to raise the visibility of this opportunity for those interested in relocating. This is an excellent opportunity within a growing company.
Our client, a national transportation packaging firm, seeks a Technical Sales Representative with a transportation or industrial packaging background for Southern California (Los Angeles area).
This is a technical sales position requiring the right balance of sales and managerial aptitudes.
Your task will be to execute the sales strategy, initiate contact with existing and potential customers, identify their needs and provide complete packaging solutions and services to meet those needs.
Meet or exceed assigned revenue and target objectives within the assigned territory.
Self-generate new opportunities calling on new and existing customers.
Apply a consultative approach to all customer contacts from owner-level to C-level leaders.
Develop and implement plans and strategies to grow your sales territory.
Develop and execute powerful presentations.
Articulate company’s packaging solution and services to convert prospects.
Close new business and foster existing customer relationships.
Examine customer specifications and prepare proposals that fulfill customer requirements.
Coordinate with Product Development on design requirements.
The ideal candidate will be able to generate conceptual multi-material packaging solutions and create supporting documentation to support estimating, shop production, and bill of material documents.
Input proposal preparation, including reviewing blueprints and performing estimating.
Adhere to and comply with the company’s processes (including but not limited to opportunity creation and pipeline management (Salesforce.com), quoting, order management, purchasing, etc.).
Document sales activities via Salesforce and document related expenses.
Maintain awareness of competitor’s sales efforts and programs in the branch territory.
Develop and communicate customer and internal corrective action requests on change orders.
Establish new and maintain existing customer relationships creating organic growth opportunities across geographic locations, divisions, and suppliers.
Accomplish all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested.
5+ years experience in Sales position within the transportation packaging industry.
2+ years sales experience in a Project Management type role selling to industrial customers.
Existing portfolio of at least $1 million in sales.
Experience selling industrial packaging related to wood, foam, corrugated, PE Bags, Supply Chain management, JIT – Inventory Control, Warehousing, Third Party Logistics, and/or ancillary packaging products and related services.
Willingness to travel 3-4 days every week within the territory.
Degree in Business, Marketing, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Packaging.
Demonstrated proficiency with Planning and Organizational skills.
Demonstrated Excellent personal presentation, oral and written skills.
Demonstrated ability to sell solutions (based on the value proposition).
Demonstrated ability to identify and solve complex customer problems.
Demonstrated ability to team sell at multiple levels.
Proven ability with MS Office, with advanced skills in PowerPoint.
Outside sales and business development experience in the industrial / transport / export packaging industries, and/or third party logistics.
Outside sales experience with one or more of the following: wood crating, pallets, corrugated packaging, and/or third party packaging and/or contract packaging services.
Outside sales experience in aerospace, defense, military, and / or heavy industries is desirable.
Graduate of any of the following packaging programs: Michigan State, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin – Stout, Clemson, Rochester Institute of Technology.
Association Involvement (IOPP, CSCMP, NIPHLE, Etc)
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex business related documents.
Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to at all levels of the company, customers, and potential customers.
Bi-Lingual Capabilities Desirable (Spanish / English / Other)
Salary is commensurate with experience. Income is a combination of salary plus commission and should be over a range from 100k to 150K per annum.
